Asteroid Hit Friday 13th Of Aprill 2029

In Arizona last year Astronomer David Tholen with a chance of hitting 170-1. Then 6 months later it was found again in Australlia and the asteroid 2004 MN4 and the chances of hitting went up to 38-1 and is supposed to hit/come close on friday April 13th (friday the 13th OOOooo) 2029.

It is thought though that the asteroid wont actually hit the earth but fly about 15 000-25 000 miles away which is about 1/10th the distance from the earth to the moon. if it does hit though it will wipe out an area of about texas. even if it doesnt hit and does just pass by, but closly it will send the earth out of orbit (a bigger orbit).

also the thought of nuking the asteroid probibly wouldnt work because of 2 possible reasons. 1 is that it could turn the chunks of roken up rock radioactive causing large area's of earth to be turned into wasteland. the other reson is because it might not destory the asteroid but just deflect it and it would come back around the year 2035. also the amount of nukes needed would be massive.

They were. On Dec. 27, Spacewatch astronomers Jeffrey Larsen and Anne Descour found 2004 MN4 in a series of images taken March 15, more than three months before Tholen's sighting. They passed the word to JPL, which issued a news bulletin: "An Earth impact on 13 April 2029 can now be ruled out."

You need to understand that the more observatiosn made of a object, the more certain you can be of it's flight path. The probability will steadily go down, and the will measure how far from the earths center it will be. Granted.... it will be close, but there is very little chance of it becoming a "Doomsday" asteroid

As already stated, it won't hit the Earth. Neither will it be able to "send the earth out of orbit (a bigger orbit)" in a near miss.

Anyway, this has been discussed to death on ATS. A simple search would show you that. So I'm locking this one up.
