I was just looking at the latest image and saw the extra bright star or whatever on the right side....What is it???

It's been a while since I've looked at the space images but I don't remember anything like this....

I know Mars is on the way, It's expected to come within 34,000,000 miles from us. With a 70x power lense on 8-27-03 Mars will be as big as the full moon in our sky.

That looks like somone did a crappy photoshop job pasting something in there. The rest of the image looks nice and anti-aliased, but that 'star' looks really pizelated, especially the flares on either side of it. Looks really questionable to me.

Would mars be that close to the sun??? I haven't seen anything like that since the NEAT incident and I don't think it was even that big.

I know that when you look up at the moon the last week or so...there is an "orange-ish" colored star to the right of the moon. That is Mars. It's best seen around 2:00am PST.

I believe that is the planet Venus, not the poster.
It is on the far side of the sun from us presently

It is even better if you watch the .gif animation of the past 30 seconds or so...Then you can watch as it moves into the picture slowly...

What's weird is it seems like the movement of the picture is moving the same direction and that the object is moving fast enough to catch up with the satalite and faster really, in order to move into the picture. But I may be mistaken..

I thought it might be mars but I didn't think it moved like that, and don't know if it's close to the sun or not...Anyone here keep up with astonomy??

That picture was taken 12 minutes before the one we are looking at but the object is not there...I am waiting for the next to try to figure what it is and how fast its moving?!?!?

I'm still not sure what it is, but at least from the animated gif I can see it is not moving quite as fast as I thought it was....
