Certainly the three letter news networks are notorious for changing the narrative on an event and 'losing' all records f prior broadcasts, pre-narrative change. That has been documented very well in both the Ok. City bombing and in the JFK jr. plane crash. I don't have an opinion on this particular item, but if that was said on the air i'm sure it's been written about by others, somewhere in the WWW.

I'm sure there were last words, maybe words that no one heard or just one person heard. Maybe not in the death chamber, but to someone prior. Point being, of course he had last word...maybe just not "last words" in public, or in front of "the witnesses."
