It was Pope John Paul II's choice NOT to defrock Law after the scandal.

Cardinal Law is just doing his duty as a member of the clergy, and as a voting member of the college of Cardinals.

I'm not condoning his actions by any means, but the blame for everything should not be placed solely on him, and since he is still a Cardinal, he should be allowed to participate freely, for doing so would deny him his right to freedom of religion...
