Just found this on the bbc.
A law was just passed in Florida that allows you to shoot people on the street when threatened. Heres the article

What a stupid, stupid idea. Firtly to allow people to carry guns in public and then to let them shoot each other legally!

Tomorrows news- Criminal shoots cop in 'self defence'

Last time I go to Disney World!

This is a licence to kill, how easy would it to be to rob someone of their cash, shoot them in the head and say they tried to attack you..

One thing I will comment on though..

"The bill has already passed the Florida Senate and is expected to be signed into law by Governor Jeb Bush, the president's brother.
"

With all the conspiracy talk about President Bush wanting to passify citizens of the USA, remove rights etc etc, surely this allows the citizen to fight back if threatened no matter by whom?

Stop the exaggerations. They clearly stated that the laws already allowed for self-defense in homes, work and cars. And they don't have a wild west situation there right now. You have more gang-bangers than anything. This new law will only allow self-defense on the streets also. So, same idea, new place.

This article is obviously from a gun-control freak source. If you think people are actually going to be running around with 2 six-shooters in their holsters and having duels outside the saloon at high noon, then I just don't understand your thinking process. Right now, the criminals have the weapons and they will shoot you just to steal your wallet and get another crack rock with your cash. So, we as people don't want to pay any more taxes, then we complain that there are no police to protect us, then we complain that we are robbed by gunpoint. So what's the best thing to do? Let us protect ourselves. I'm all for it, can't wait until New York wakes up. Pfft, what am I thinking, this socialist nazi state?

We conservatives have givin the Liberals a chance to reduce crime....and they have failed!!! Gun control laws, Gun-Free zones, 3 strikes laws etc etc.

What we will end up with is honest citizens being dis-armed and the criminals having guns. Look at Washington DC, its a "gun-free zone" and criminals laugh at those laws, as they rob yet another honest citizen.

Florida has the right idea, the Liberals had their chance to reduce crime.......now STFU and move over!

I agree this is nothing new. Several states already allow for citizens to carry arms for their protection, both concealed or out in the open if they want.

It's been a year and a half since this thread was posted and a quick Google search fails to return any evidence that the predictions of mayhem have come anywhere near being true.

Does anyone have any evidence to support the dire predictions?
