Hand painted, that must have taken some time. I have to agree with djohnsto77, its ugly, i'm sure i could have done a better job.

Yes I do think they would look pretty if seen live..esp. at airports against the backdrop of all other bland planes..
I remember that BA also had a few colourful designs..

Is it true that the Qantas 747 that are hand painted cruise slower because

very doubtful, I doubt they were painted with a brush and bucket, they were probably painted by a spray gun, and in which case it would be like your car, the clearcoat would give it a smooth finish, which would create no drag. I'm sure they cruise as fast as a normal airliner.

and yes, they are ugly.

Totally agree... Those paints sheme are as a normal painting, it doesnt change anything for the speed of the aircraft...

Not ugly, but Aboriginal art may seem a lil... astonishing on an airliner!!
Seen a 727 or someting like that ith such a painting on it when I was in Australia... There isn't only two, is it??

Don't know about the drag I'm sure a smooth fainting layer of pint will make that baby sleek.
However it does look ugly not to knock on aboriginal painting but it looks like someone threw up all over the airplane

The blue one looks cool but then again, I remember the 60's.

QANTAS planes have never had a fatal accident. Not even the ones painted up as Priscilla to create more air "drag". Those boomerangs keep coming back.

It's just WAY to busy, it would be nice if done in a little more moderation.

I think viewers would realize how understated the designs are by looking at more traditional aboriginal art.

I dunno 'bout anyone else, but they look beautiful. It's like not seeing the forest past the trees - but the other way around.

They would be smoothed, surely.
