A good enough idea. I don't mean to turn it into 'the west is the best' or something stupid like that. I
do, however, recall being taught
that islamic civilization preserved and expanded upon greco-roman thinking, and that the re-introduction of these texts and knowledge spured the
renaissance, then enlightenment, and ultimately the modern world.
Agreed, it doesn't get too specific, and could probably benefit by doing so. I don't think its a deliberate attempt tho, especially considering that
the people who write textbooks tend to be academics. There is a definite possibility of overstating the case tho, and it also can't be neglected
that the islamic world seemed to enter a dark ages period almost in lock-step as europe was comming out of it.
