I can imagine a great many defensible reactions to the current US administration; but the "world" -wherever that is -would be ill advised to put "laughing" at the top of its list. The US is a bit too big for mere derision.

Regardless of how mighty the US is, bush's behaviour (first work with UN to get a resolution, then smear the UN and break that same resolution, now crawling back because he realizes Iraq is a hornet's nest) is disarming to every neutral observer, to say the very least. How about an apology to the UN ? that would set things straight.

I certainly have disdain for this administration and some for all that have passed. Administrations come and go the American Ideal is forever and lives in the land.
Furthermore I am of the opinion that the un-UN should aplologize to the world and America for failure to act in unity in a situation that demanded it.
If the un-UN had of acted more decisevely and supported the US we would not be in this conspiracy inspiring situation. There would now be world wide involvement in reconstruction and rebuilding. But NO we are the country you love to hate, till you need us!

Can i just point out to kitty that the USSR split up when i was a kid. i mean i know American news tells you nothing about wot is going on outside the good old USA but i expect them to tell you when somthing as big as that happens .

Well said, I am not even going to drag myself to give input on this useless thread.

Since when has the U.S. ever given a crap about what other countries think about us?

From the beginning we have been the unwanted & mocked cast-offs from other societies and countries. Send over the religious zealots, the unsavory-types and the politically untrustworthy is what they wanted. It was only when we became a major source of income did King George start to care about us. Heck, the dang French and Russians sold us most of our land mass because they didn't see any real value in it.

We didn't care what they thought of us then and we don't now. We maybe engaging in a little international adventurism now and then, but don't take that as us being interested in YOUR country's affairs. We only do it (for the most part) out of necessity of our economy, and (on occasion) because we can get morally outraged.

Most true Americans know whats best: whenever possible, stay at home and let the Europeans and Asians continue to slaughter themselves as they have been successfully doing for the last 2000 years.

The moment we start to worry about what other countries think about us is the moment we are no longer great.

Bring back the Munroe Doctrine..........
