A Japanese Ex-Government worker has been accused of spying and is currently under investigation. The home of a former engineering officer of the Defense Agency has had his home searched on suspicion that he has removed documents which contain information of submarines which he was not entitled to do while he was working for the agency. The former officer is also suspected to have handed copies to an acquaintance who has frequently made visits to China. The police are investigating the chance that the information was leaked into China.
The former officer was engaged in researching steel-related fields, including raw materials for steel production and developing ballistics-resistant steel. The police believe the documents he removed included a thesis he co authored with a colleague in the late 1990s.

An agency official said the former officer told the agency by phone that he had been questioned by police on a voluntary basis. A senior agency official said, "If the only copies of documents that were removed are the thesis that the former officer referred to, they're not confidential and could even be made available to someone outside the agency."

During the questioning, the former officer basically admitted taking copies of documents from the center, police sources said. He reportedly told the police that his actions could be considered theft. He also said he had handed the documents to the acquaintance, the sources said.

This can do no good for the current relationship between China and Japan. Only recently did China put in a bid to stop Japan’s attempt to join the U.N. More about that story can be found here. So why can’t these two countries simple leave each other alone, they are in constant rivalry which I soon believe will end up in war.
