No its a real society. Its history is detailed in the Book "Holy Blood, Holy Grail" by Henry Lincoln. I've read the book three times myself and it is most of the most interesting books I have ever read

I read that book over twenty years ago, back in high school! I really liked it Not that I can remember even half of it Thanks for reminding me of it.

Note to self: Get copy of book.
