this is how i do it

i go by the country of origin of the breed.

i.e. german shepard = irwin, heinz, karl, gunter, heidi, klaus, fritz

of course you would also take in the account the dogs gender.

That is how we named our dogs as well. Since these dogs were named for a mountain range in Portugal - I would choose something from that country. A couple I found:

Pico - the tallest portugese mountain
Viriathus - hero
Mondego - a river
Tejo - largest river

of course there's always Rex, Killer, and Scruffy.

....A friend of mine did that to his cat, but of course vice versa...Her name is Puppy

I actually recently lost a dog of mine....My pit, Dante....He was only a year old, but he developed renal failure
....Very unfortunate and untimely.....Add to that the fact that it's the same disease my parent's previous dog had - He lived quite a bit longer, but had a chronic condition, which is near impossible to spot the signs of until it's too late....

At any rate....You're getting a cute little puppy...enough about death....

What I wanted to say was, I think you should wait and give it some time....The best name you can give a dog is one that matches his personality....That's why I named mine Dante....He was a little devil with an overabundance of charm
