im not catholic.....not even remotley religious but i admire and respect the pope, hes given his whole life to the benefit of others....i cant believe people would come out with such small minded remarks......especially implying that the catholic church and the pope himself have been covering up and protecting on the subject of child abusers and molesters...this happens in all societies and social groups....its awful and evil in its purest form....but to lay it at the popes door is just a childish thing to imply.....pope john paul has given much to this world....mainly his love and belief in people....he will be remembered.

This is a wonderful example of why I think the pope is a bad example for an "anti hate" thread.

Anyone who writes such a statement is either unbelievably ignorant, or he is trying to protect the pedophile priests and the church helping them. Such a view practically begs to be flamed.

I will not flame him for it, as it's is counter-productive. But it goes to show that the pope is a badly selected example in "the war against hate on ATS".

Peace

Every second day I plan to leave ATS, as a very insignificant protest that will probably not even be noticed, for exactly the reasons that Relentless stated in her first post on this thread. I am amazed that the Christian Godbashing is not only the acceptable but preferred sport on ATS. I am astounded that people with very little information will reduce the Pope's dying moments into an opportunity to hate him and say things like"may he rot in hell". I am alarmed that every thread about Terri Schiavo's starving to death was turned into a hate Bush/political agenda speech. I am appalled that hate speech is so prevalent on ATS and yes I did complain about this, I for one don't mind being the biggest griper on ATS, and nothing changed. The Politics@ATS exists really in name only and Christianity is a constant source of ridicule here. I am amused that s0omeone would say look away from the hate and walk away when its your fundamental beliefs under attack. But mostly I am dumbfounded that hate speech is considered "freedom of speech".

Relentless , you go girl!!!!

So you don't differentiate between someone slagging off a guy defending pedophiles and someone slagging off say jews or homosexuals?

I mean, trying to keep a civil tone is good, but there must be a difference between subjects and context, right? If someone was raving on about Hitler being evil, and someone else was raving on about the evil of woman, you can't count them the same. One has reason, the other has hate.

This is a discussion board for gods sake.

I have a feeling some of you guys are less than objective about this. You are not really against people flaming. You just get personally affronted if someone points out certain facts about the pope and his organization. And if someone says something you don't like, you accuse them of hate-mongering.

That's fine I guess, you are entitled your opinion. But don't try to assume the mantle of objectivity and reason if you are that heavily biased.

Oh, and a bit more intelligent reply than "And you are a wonderful example of why I wrote this thread" would be appreciated.

Thanks.

First off, some of you need to knock off the excessive quoting and one line comments.

Secondly, as mentioned by Bryd, the best and most direct way for the problem(s) that are being discussed within this thread to be even remotely addressed or rectified, if applicable, is to use the suggestion/complaint feature and let us know.

I understand that the purpose of this thread is to make the community aware, etc., but exactly how many members of ATS will read this? It may be viewed by some but will not be viewed by most. You know, the 'few' and the 'many' thing is happening here.

All I, and "we," are asking is to give us the benefit of the doubt and gives us some direct heads up.

Board Stats:

Most total registered members online all at once: 227 on Nov, 3 @ 11:02 GMT
Most registered users ever on ATS in one day: 1823 on Nov, 3 @ 22:22 GMT
Most new posts on ATS in one day: 4067 on Nov, 3 @ 18:42 GMT

Views of this thread since being posted this AM - 629. Not too shabby. Obviously people ARE reading it.

I acknowledge the Mods are busy and I am not blaming the Mods, I know the board is huge and you have lives. That is why I started a thread in an attempt to perhaps make some people give a little more thought to what they post (or say in chat for that matter).

As such Relentless, awareness is always a good thing, no doubt, but as heated as your initial topic post indicated, if there is a specific problem(s) and/or specific post(s) and/or specific topic(s) [links to such would be most helpful], there has yet to be seen a suggestion/complaint filed for staff review.

Is there a specific one that needs to be looked into or addressed? If so, letting "us" know through the use of filing a suggestion/complaint would be helpful.

Hate breeds where the Ignorant Stand

The ignorant find ways to express their views through various medias, hate, anger, insults, lies and foolish comments. It is best we deal with the Ignorant masses through common sense, structured debating and the knowledge that we listen and learn.

Nice thread

EXCELLENT THOUGHTS!!! i totally agree with you. i saw the thread originally referenced and another this morning on porn where someone referred to the middle eastern people as well................it just was rude and should NEVER have been stated.

its ok to have your own thoughts out here but to spew venom just makes someone look like a bloomin idiot.

i have no place for racism and vile rhetoric in my life.

i totally agree and echo the thoughts of nontolerance of bad behavior out here!!

get em MODS!!

As I explained to Byrd, I use the complaint form. But in this instance, it can't even be narrowed down to one thread, I am not talking about one thread, I am talking about a trend and if you guys can't see it, then I guess it's me. (and the few viewers who actually also concurred in writing on this thread

The problem here is that trolls know exactly how to stick to the rules.
In a way you mods help trolls.
Trolls provoke and screw up the thread, and when you yell at them you get warned.

Mods could be replaced by bots if all that mods do is detect the word "idiot" or "retard" and warn.
It would be great if mods looked at the why and the what, and warned the troll and not the ones that the troll pissed off.

It's not a new thing, the 'trend' has been going on for along time. It happened when ATS decided to evolve and not just be a conspiracy site. It started slowly at first but now seems to be getting worse, the larger the site gets the worse it will get. I guess thats progress for you if you want to go down that road. The staff on here do a great job, but maybe more are needed to keep the order of balance...

I am new here and it just seems to me as if people get easily offended.

There are of course some weird comments thrown around like the one about arabs etc, in the porn thread, but I think that just comes with free speech. Why does everything have to be made into such a big deal? I saw the comment, I am not caucasian, I didn't feel a grave injustice was commited against me........

As for the pope I think people are just sensitive because it's the pope.

Thanks Relentless for this post. I'm a Protestant myself but still have respect for this Pope and feel it's quite disrespectful to everyone, especially our Catholic friends, to make fun him at this somber time. I'm amazed at just how insensitive some people can be.

BTW:

You have voted Relentless for the Way Above Top Secret award. You have two more votes this month.

I have nothing with the pope, but you telling us that you want the pope to burn in hell is out of line.
You have revealed yourself to be nothing more than a nasty troll, just out to provoke people and screw up threads like that.

Let’s not have this thread degrade into the very thing we wish to prevent. Please let’s stick to the topic and come-up with ideas and suggestions on how we can limit and discourage “flame” posts.

Why is that out of line( I honestly don't remember saying that though, I did say him and his friends from IG farben will be together though)......

Even if I did say it that is just a personal opinion. Not an attack on any member of the board. And if I am not mistaken the pope damns people all the time so why is it out of line for someone else?

Did I attack you? Did I call names?
