According to US researchers, the amount of carbon dioxide in the atmosphere is still rising. THe reserchers are located on top the Hawaiian volcano Mauna Loa have been making CO2 measurments for almost 50 years and they say its reached a new high.

The atmospheric concentration of the greenhouse gas carbon dioxide has reached a new high, say US researchers.

The figures - 378 parts per million (ppm) - were gathered by a Hawaiian lab regarded by experts as one of the most reliable in climate research.

FredT, I have agree, CO2 is rising and will more than likely rise at a higher rate. China is experiancing an incredible rise in technology and growth. No one can deny that the rise is occuring, it's a fact. More people, more vehicles and natural contributions all are contributing at one of the highest rates known. What it will do the the planet in the long run remains to be seen, but we can expect rougher weather, swings in local climate patterns, increased respiratory health problems and I have'nt even mentioned GW. All models show that carbon in the atmosphere will have a thermal effect, what we don't know is what effect awaits us. What we do have to be concerned about is increased natural activities that could push the envelope over a theshold that sets of catastrophic events that end up wiping out hole sections of populations and/or food sources.
