NEWS: Aid Rushes Into Indonesia After Quake

Only a day after being hit by an earthquake measuring 8.7 on the Richter scale, humanitarian aid is pouring into Indonesia. The earthquake killed approximately 1,000 people on the island of Nias, a relatively popular local resort. The UN is already there, and the US has said it is ready to move in. In Gunung Sitoli, the main town on Nias, the roads are a mess, the water system has failed utterly, and bodies are strewn about.



It seems the world learned its lesson. Neighboring areas issued sent out aid ships and issued warnings within hours. Aid from the UN and US is really on the spot. Although it may be twisted to say so, these quakes have been a fantastic PR event for all countries involved, especially the US. America is making a huge presence in the lives of the victims in Indonesia, which should prove invaluable in the coming years.

so, are we allowed to bring supplies in with military delivery systems again now?

I still have a feeling the world is getting hosed. As soon as there is a disaster, all these groups that are at eah other's throats go and settle scores, and add the death tolls to those blamed on the disaster.

What structures were left that didn't get knocked down before? What structures were newly bult that failed to survive? Was infrastructure already so well rebuilt that to have it fail left more people unable to survive a few days?

How much is it rebels/criminals/governments using the chaos to visit violence upon their opponents?
