Louis Jourdain, son of Floyd Jourdain, Chariman of the Red Lake Chippewa community, was arrested Monday on suspicion that he may have been involved in the shootings at Red Lake High School. His father stated that he believed his son was innocent. Chris Dunshee, principal of Red Lake High, said that Jourdain was not a problem at the school, and was not known to him to have been a part of Jeff Weise's circle of friends.

RED LAKE, Minn. (AP) -- The chairman of the Red Lake band of Chippewa confirmed Tuesday that his son was arrested in connection with last week's deadly school shootings but maintained that the teen is innocent.

Federal authorities had announced an unidentified juvenile's arrest on Monday, and a law enforcement source speaking on condition of anonymity had identified the boy to The Associated Press as Louis Jourdain. The source said the arrest was part of an investigation into a potentially wider plot.

A government official briefed on the investigation told AP that prosecutors were contemplating charging Jourdain as an adult with conspiracy to commit murder. The official spoke only on condition of anonymity because the investigation is continuing.

It is believed that the attack that took place at Red Lake high could not have been the work of one person. The investigators believe that it would have required more planning. Weise's computer has been seized and investigators have looked into the emails from Weise to Jourdain.

It seems highly unlikely to me that a person like Louis Jourdain would be involved in this. He has been described as a good kid. Investigators may be grasping at straws here, but they may find additional information on Weise's computer.

wow, usually for the Feds to get involved on a tribal land issue requires tons of paperwork, politics, and all sorts of nastiness. No matter what the crime, it's awlays a jurisdiction hassle to say the least. Local tribal authorities are usally very quick to protect the leaders and their families from any legal repercussion, from crimes large and small.

Were the Feds invited in to assist? Is this some sort of political maneuvering by less prominent tribal members hoping to get a little political boost by smearing another's name, or the Chief looking to get rid of some competition?

Well Since tribal lands are not technical part of the state, State Police don't get involved. Tribal lands are supposed to be soverign. But they are however administired by the Feds. So in a case where the state police would normally step in, like mass homicide, the Feds do instead.
They are supposed to work in conjuction with the tribal police, but in a lot of cases they work the case, and keep the tribal police informed.
