Professor Alan Thorpe, chief of the Natural Environmental Research Council, will be aiming to tackle skeptics next month.
The Institute of Physics hopes that the paper will help persuade skeptics that human activity is likely to be a large contributer to global warming. The paper is geared to convince the public and the scientific community that the threats posed by global climate change are real.

One of Britain's leading climate change experts has thrown his weight behind the claim that global warming is being caused by human activity in a report published today by the Institute of Physics.
The report by Professor Alan Thorpe, who takes up his post as chief of the Natural Environmental Research Council next month, aims to tackle sceptics who doubt the models scientists use to predict future climate change.

"There is little doubt that a lack of knowledge about how climate change is predicted and the associated uncertainties are the main reason that there is so much ill-informed comment on climate change in the media and amoung the public".

The Institute of Physics hopes that the paper will increase believability in climate models and persuade sceptics that human activity is likely to be causing global warming. The paper aims to convince policy-makers, the general public and the scientific community that the threats posed by global climate change are real.

Professor Thorpe says, "There is little doubt that a lack of knowledge about how climate change is predicted and the associated uncertainties are the main reason that there is so much ill-informed comment on climate change in the media and among the public".

I don't believe that the report will change very many peoples minds. Some believe Man made global warming is a conspiracy to remove the wealth of the U.S.A. While others believe global warming doesn't matter at all. The divide on this subject goes beyond the knowledge of how the conclusion was arrived.

With the divide being so strong I will expect to see a similar move by those who are skeptic of global warming.

Good work, nice find.

...The report link is a pdf and takes forever to load because of the cover pictures (which are very cool) - but it's worth the wait and a good informative read. Explains stuff well and in pretty simple terms.

Thanks.

I like the Vostok core data - shows we are at top of a trend and that there is some process happening on a cyclical basis despite our being bad boys and girls. Planetary impact, super volcano, magnetic pole flip, aliens..??

What happens if the computer model is wrong and we are just following the cycles with some short term noise caused by us - an ice age seems like it will be in the offing pretty soon. Time to buy real estate in the equatorial regions.

That is the whole point of Thorpe's report.

The report by Professor Alan Thorpe, who takes up his post as chief of the Natural Environmental Research Council next month, aims to tackle skeptics who doubt the models scientists use to predict future climate change.

He wants to take this to the skeptics who think the models are incorrect.
