Do they? I mean they should right? They are a potential human being after all. I dont understand how ppl can just kill them with like spermacide and think its completely ok. Shouldnt they get some rights? If animals have rights shouldnt they? They are living things afterall. I know that b4 they make it to the egg they arent yet a person, but isnt it kind of unfair and cruel to just kill them without any hope? I know that billions of them die each day, but still. I dont think its as bad as abortion, but should they have any rights?

I know this sounds kind of silly

hehe dude, do you have any idea how many kleenex police we would need for all the junior high students out there?

Sperm, while technically a potential child, isn't protected because, if left alone, that sperm is gonna die, not turn into a baby. There are, however, some sperm rights for sperm donation, but those right mostly apply to the donor.

I was thinking more along the lines of like Birth control but you make a good point.

I don't think you can compare an animal to a sperm, which only has half the total chromosomes necessary to make a complete human being, and I also don't see it as cruel or unfair that sperm are "killed without any hope."

Do you think it also unfair and cruel each time I menstruate that my egg is passed with the uterine tissue and the cell is wasted, or are you just thinking about the sperm being killed by spermicides, etc?
If so, what's the difference between being wasted and being killed?

Anyway, I don't think they should have rights. In fact, I find the idea ridiculous.

Hey half a person is better then none

I dont mean like naturally dieing out, I mean being purposely killed so they do not have a chance to impregnate a women.

Hey who are we to deny someone the right to live? *Cough Terry Schiavo Cough*

I still think it's a ridiculous idea. It's a single cell and I don't think it should be protected just because it's a potential half human.
And if you're being responsible and using spermicides, or condoms with spermicidal lubricants, "half a person" still kickin isn't better than none at all, catch my drift?

Sweet mother of Jesus, Croat, I have found the one that this was written for!

DAD:
There are Jews in the world.
There are Buddhists.
There are Hindus and Mormons, and then
There are those that follow Mohammed, but
I've never been one of them.

I'm a Roman Catholic,
And have been since before I was born,
And the one thing they say about Catholics is:
They'll take you as soon as you're warm.

You don't have to be a six-footer.
You don't have to have a great brain.
You don't have to have any clothes on. You're
A Catholic the moment Dad came,

Because

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite irate.

GIRL:
Let the heathen spill theirs
On the dusty ground.
God shall make them pay for
Each sperm that can't be found.

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is wanted.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

MUM:
Hindu, Taoist, Mormon,
Spill theirs just anywhere,
But God loves those who treat their
Semen with more care.

MEN:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
WOMEN:
If a sperm is wasted,...
CHILDREN:
...God get quite irate.

PRIEST:
Every sperm is sacred.
BRIDE and GROOM:
Every sperm is good.
NANNIES:
Every sperm is needed...
CARDINALS:
...In your neighbourhood!

CHILDREN:
Every sperm is useful.
Every sperm is fine.
FUNERAL CORTEGE:
God needs everybody's.
MOURNER #1:
Mine!
MOURNER #2:
And mine!
CORPSE:
And mine!

NUN:
Let the Pagan spill theirs
O'er mountain, hill, and plain.
HOLY STATUES:
God shall strike them down for
Each sperm that's spilt in vain.

EVERYONE:
Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is good.
Every sperm is needed
In your neighbourhood.

Every sperm is sacred.
Every sperm is great.
If a sperm is wasted,
God gets quite iraaaaaate!

Hehe MA, that song ran through my head when I first saw this post, too. I'm kind of suprised no Catholics who believe in the sanctity of sperm have chimed in on this thread yet.

Hey Im just thinkin outloud here. I was thinkin about it earlier today so I thought I would just ask and see what would come up.

But like I said earlier Who are we to deny someone the right to live?

We don't we judge you because you think outext

I understand where you're coming from with that statement, though. That's the main way I educate myself to contrary opinion is through debate and questioning other people. Sure, I listen to NPR and real Al-Jazeera to get a contrary opinion (there are others, too, but most outspoken liberals here at ATS consider those sources conservative, too, such as Michael Moore or something).

This is also why I answered you seriously instead of giving an entirely snide comment

THAT'S why MA rocks so hard (deja vu?)!

Anyway, sperm have no rights. As was said, obviously, the example with an egg is a great counter. Also, what about the millions of sperm that die so that ONE can 'survive?' Millions of live > 1, So we should all stop reproducing to save lives.

Jail for wet dreams...

If you wanna give them rights, why not bacteria? Sperm are basically complex bacteria that belong to me. Certainly you don't favor bacterial rights...

Not naturally.

and they are not bacteria.

Dying as a by-product of not fertilizing the egg is the most natural way possible.

and they are not bacteria.

How aren't they? They've got even less than a right to live than bacteria do, bacteria can reproduce and exist on its own, sperm do not.

I am talking about birth control. Like spermacide.

Cide means to kill in latin doesnt it?

Ok, well, if you define it to such terms, then ok.

I'd still like an explanation on why they're not like bacteria.

And we kill millions of living creatures a year.

I'm simply stating that a bacterium is more alive than a spermatoza.
