Excited to be here!

Not sure how much right I have to post at this board, as I am currently living outside the US and my native language is not English...

For a good while I will be lurking and learning, and if conditions become favorable, I might post a bit... I think this community looks totally cool and deals with matters that are at the core of what interests me. Having lived in the US for a number of years, I have been wondering if I would be able to recognize the country I loved, returning in a post-9/11, post-GWB era. Certainly, there seems to have been a great change caused by all those 'top secret' terror fighting agendas. It concerns me that America now seems less transparent than yesterday, that freedom of thought and freedom of speech are suffering, and that the US has given up on international cooperation.

Well, this board's very existence seems to somewhat negate what I just said... so maybe all is still well, after all.
