PLAYGIRL editor-in-chief Michele Zipp has been stripped of her duties after she revealed how she voted Republican in the 2004 election.
Zipp, in an e-mail, claims she was fired after an onslaught of liberal backlash.
www.drudgereport.com...
here is a very fine example of the "consiracy" of the liberal left to squash any positive examples of powerful women without the need for
organizations like NOW. A majority of Playgirls readership is the gay community. I would imagine the outrage was rather loud when she was "outed"
as a reviled "republican".

I hope she sues the hell out of them. Being a Republican is no reason for the firing. If roles were reversed the Democrats would be screaming from
on high. New laws would be introduced, etc.

I'm sure there is more to the story that what Drudge is reporting, which is just based on an email from the ex-editor. I'd like to hear the
magazines side of it.
But, if it's true that she was fired because of her political beliefs, then she should sue their playgirl asses off!

Welcome to capitalism. Nothing wrong here.
Once the editor stated her views were contrary to most of her readers upon which the magazine relies for income, she might as
well have been quitting.

The same thing would have happened if the editor of a Christian magazine came out and told their readers they worshipped Satan. No conspiracy here.
Just good business sense to can her to avoid loss of paying readership.
This woman was either incredibly naive or looking for a way out of her job. There has been so much anti-gay rhetoric from the right in the last year
due to the election that any hint of conservativism in a gay publication is going to hurt it badly.

From Playgirl:
New York, NY, March 21, 2005 – "For more than 30 years, the Playgirl name has been synonymous with freedom and empowerment…for women, by women,
about women. Playgirl values all political affiliations and anyone on its staff is free to express those opinions.
In our decision to replace Ms. Zipp, the magazine is taking a new direction editorially and creatively. We wish only the best for Michele in her
future endeavors."

It looks like people have made up their minds without looking at the facts (wow, that's shocking!). The truth is, we don't know what happened. At
this point it's just Drudge drudging. I have a feeling that some people wouldn't get so offended if a person was fired because they were a Democrat,
some people's outrage only goes in one direction.

IMO.....who cares about anyone involved with Playgirl Magazine? And being fired for being a Republican is nonsense. Find out the real reason, then
post it. This isn't the real reason!!
Oh, and the editor of Big Hooters magazine was fired for being a member of the Anti-Implant League.

Perhaps the reason she got "dismissed" was because the magazine was not selling the way it should.
It could be many reasons as why beside been a "Republican" that sounds to lame.
I got a nice link on her story but i can not post it because is on a "out of limits to ATS site".
What do you expect from somebody link to "Playgirl"

I can't believe you liberals are actually promoting discrimination based on political ideology... do you really think that's okay?
The best I can make out of Rant's post is that he thinks it's all right to fire someone if their politics don't agree with that of their customers.
So, if Fox News decided to throw out all of the left-wing scum festering in their gutters for no reason other than the fact that they are democrats,
it'd be fine and dandy?

I agree with RANT.
She went out of her way to talk about her political beliefs, which proved to be a liability for the magazine.
If she cost them money then its a perfectly good reason to get rid of her.

Wonkette points out from the text of Ms. Zipp's statement...
"After underlings expressed their disinterest of working for an outed Republican editor, I have a strong suspicion that my position was no
longer valued by Playgirl executives...."
"expressed their disinterest of working for an outed Republican editor"
I know it's Playgirl, but how can you call yourself an editor-in-chief and not know how to put a sentence together? What kind of moron screams
discrimination and then gives people ammunition against them in the very same breath?
Personally, I don't think that beliefs should influence hiring and firing-- as long as they don't interfere with the job.
I was offended when President Bush made it be known that he thought it was acceptable for
faith-based organizations to take religion into consideration when making employment
decisions. How is being a Jew or a Buddhist going to make someone unable to be the receptionist for "Focus on the Family"? Apparently President
Bush thinks that FOTF has the right not to hire them even if they are fully qualified.
Sure, if someone who is a vegan takes a job at a butcher and vomits whenever they have to touch meat, there is going to be an issue or if a
fundamentalist Christian takes a job as a counselor in an abortion clinic and tells women that they are going to hell if they end their pregnancies,
we have a problem.
And if a conservative editor working at a liberal nudie mag feels that she has to mouth off in public (and even issue a
press release espousing her opposing political views), then yes, she should be fired (if
that was actually the case--it could be that her lack of verbal skills finally caught up to her....)

At least this confirms my suspicion that Horacid reads Playgirl.
Only for the articles, I'm sure.
I'll call the Dixie Chicks and get their opinion on the Conservatives' valiant fight against censorship.

Except if the roles were inversed and it was a liberal being fired from a magazine that relies on income from Republicans, most liberals would be
crying and whining about a conspiracy and how Republicans are planning to take over the world....

So you agree that a private company should be able to fire an employee based on political beliefs?
Personally, I am with you on that - the more freedom for the OWNER of the company to run it the way he/she chooses the better.
Yet somehow I think that if this were, say, Guns & Ammo and the editor got fired because he said he was a Democrat, you would be outraged.

I really don't think being the editor of "Playgirl" magazine is a positive example of a powerful woman. Firing her for such a reason clearly
demonstrates the complete hypocracy of the left, however, and how little diversity they are willing to tolerate when it comes to opinions and
convictions. Diversity only counts if everyone is a liberal and a Democrat.

Good one Grady. For my own amusement, I've taken to mentally punctuating your political opine now with Git R Done!.
Kind of puts it all in the proper context.
Anyway, here's Judge Greer's Southern Baptist Church Pastor Asking Him
to Disjoin Over his Ruling in Schiavo.
Which I support their right to do as well.
Since Christianity only counts if you're a right wing fringe political extremist now.
