A Friend of mine who volunteers as an inshore rescue operative is seeing a lot of RNLI activity off of Jersey and towards Spain. Apparently the French Navy are involved and this has been ongoing since around 7am.

Anyone shed some light on this?

Didn't the French Navy threaten to unseat Macron and throw him into the sea?

That's what I thought.

It's probably something to do with disputed fishing rights since Brexit.

Or capsized boats full of migrants trying to get from France to UK territory. Jersey, isn't it one of the Channel Islands near the Normandy coast?

Cheers

French person missing overboard, I live on the island, this was one of the first news reports I read today;

'Search for missing person launched south of the Minquiers'

A SEARCH and rescue operation for a missing French person – involving several vessels and aircraft – was launched south of the Minquiers on Thursday (29 April).

The JLA, the RNLI's St Helier inshore and all-weather boats, as well as lifeboats from St Malo and Granville, were all sent to the scene west of Chausey.

Two helicopters, the Channel Islands Air Search plane, a French police cutter and fishing vessels have all been involved in the search.

According to French officials leading the search, the alarm was raised just after 8.15am after a person working on the Mascaret III lobster and crab vessel fell overboard. They added that the water temperature in the area is around 10°C.

Le Télégramme, a Brittany-based newspaper, is reporting that the casualty is a man in his 30s.

I know that it's 2021, so nothing should surprise me any more, but I still can't believe that somebody hears "French Navy" and "Jersey" and the first thing that they think of is the one in America.

Is geography no longer taught?

Off the top of my head I'm not exactly sure where it's placed.
The fishing rights has been a bone of contention for a while now.
It's just the first thing that came to mind.

Migrants would've been a second guess but there's been some talk about the French escorting them to British waters and leaving them for the British to deal with.

As the RNLI are involved perhaps it's to do with this.

Nine small boats carrying 209 migrants have crossed the English Channel - the highest number in a single day this year.

The Home Office said a further 166 people were prevented from crossing by French authorities.

More than 1,850 people have reached the UK by boat in 2021
www.bbc.co.uk...

That thing our useless Home Secretary Priti Patel said she was going to deal with last year.

Johnson is a Muppet for keeping her in post.

Nothing to do with migrants or fishing rights. It's an annual naval exercise, given a new name. It's one of the biggest naval exercises in Europe.

Not sure the RNLI (Royal National Lifeboat Institution) take part in Naval exercises.

They actually do, depending on the scenario involved in the exercise. It helps both sides learn to integrate for when they're doing real world operations. The main part of the exercise kicks off May 8th, but they'll be learning how to operate safely around each others ships and boats prior to that, to minimize risk.

These will include "increasing political and military tensions, along with a huge range of realistic military tasks such as intelligence gathering and reconnaissance; anti-smuggling and counter-terrorism operations; humanitarian assistance and evacuation operations".

Difficult to critisise Priti when the French authorities are up to their ears in facilitating the migrant traffic.

To the OP. RNLI = lifeboats.
