I love mashed potatoes, but my route to heaven has always been via real spuds, boiled, mashed and devoured.

This video just popped up in my YT feed and it's an eye-opener! Logically, there's no reason why it shouldn't work and with all the different flavoured potato chips/crisps, there's no limit to what weird and wonderful monster mashes you can do. Probably a lot better and healthier than your typical Smash/powdered ready mix.

Although, I wouldn't try it with Pringles or other processed potato products.

My tip: I prefer to add cream cheese to my mashed potatoes rather than milk/cream/butter.

Anyway, here's Sam the Cooking Guy to explain it:

Enjoy!

Don't fear! You can take the natural path. Thinly slice fresh potatoes, bake or fry to make your own chips/crisps... then goto Sam's method. It's a longer way round, but good results are guaranteed!

I guess this is good for outdoor camping/survival stuff. A lot lighter to carry around some chips/crisps instead of the partner/friend sack of potatoes!

Well, if I'm going to make mashed potatoes I'll do it with my ricer and s*** ton of butter and cream.

Not with potato chips. I can't even...

3 minute mashed potatoes:

1. Place whole small (or 1/2 larger) potatoes into microwave on 3 minutes (with skin on)
2. Cut cooked potatoes in half
3. Place a cut half potato in ricer to mash, skin side up
4. Press ricer, then remove skin from ricer (repeat)
5. Add mix and seasoning of choice (which could be ground flavored chips too)
6. Serve and and enjoy

How much does an 8oz pkg of potato chips cost? $3.57 advertised at WalMart.

How much does a single baker cost? 48 cents advertised at WalMart.

Nuff said.

This is like one of those pop ups where it's like '50 Life Hacks You Need To Know!' but in reality what you really need is life to actually hack you into pieces for attempting this.

Or you can buy Hungry Jack or some other "instant" potatoes. Very easy to make. Because if you're using potato chips to make mashed potatoes, you're probably not worried about the health issues of instant mashed potatoes compared to fresh ones.

Pretty sure this idea was whipped up in prison.

Thanks for that. Unfortunately, I have neither a microwave oven nor a ricer. I'll stick to my simple boiling potatoes until they're cooked. I don't really need mashed potatoes that quickly.

Wow, that's quite expensive. Where I am in Europe, potato chips are much less expensive, unless you're looking at gourmet styles.

LOL, I don't follow Sam, but I think he's done that, too.

I recall that cornflakes are all the rage for breading chicken, too.

LOL, I never said I would. I explained in my first sentence how I make it and I can't see that changing anytime soon.

I was more intrigued by the idea it could be done. Perhaps in a camping, survival situation or post post apocalypse world where all that's left are potato chips and you want some variety in the pathetic life that would ensue.

Now that's something I'd love to see done! The Pillsbury Doughboy would be proud.

I think that's probably where the idea originated. Some comments to the video alluded to that. It would appear that incarceration really does lead to insanity!
