Also, I think in every jury selection, they should ask jurors:

Attorneys for both sides question potential jurors. The attorneys may reject a certain number of candidates without giving reason. Beyond that they can object to the appointment of a juror for cause and the judge will make a determination.

And finally, none of this throwing out multiple charges and hope one or more sticks— pick a single charge and ride on it.
And have a separate trial for each crime which may have been committed?

Multiple charges is always how it's done because of the odds of getting at least one to stick during the trial itself and then when the appeals are filed each conviction will more likely be separate meaning it will be harder to win an appeal and therefor more likely to make a conviction stick. The charges were all related and it makes sense to do them all at the same time rather than lose one, have a new trial for another or convict on one then have the defendant beat it in an appeal etc.
