"Images of what appears to be a hovering ship have been captured as the result of a RARE optical illusion off the coast of England.
David Morris took a photo of the ship near Falmouth, Cornwall.
BBC meteorologist David Braine said the "SUPERIOR MIRAGR" occurred because of "SPECIL atmospheric conditions that bend light".
He said the illusion is common in the Arctic, but can appear "VAER RARELY" in the UK during winter."

So its RARE, SUPERIOR MIRAGR, SPECIL, VAER RARELY !

the picture is a big oil tanker about 50 yards or meters above the see with a clift face at the right side.
looks to me to be about 1 1/2 miles off the cost.

This isn't that rare, do a search and you'll get lots of examples of this being captured before. To be fair i don't think I have ever seen an example quite so 'floaty' as this one, that's quote some illusion. Annoys me why they just have the one photo, i'd be standing there all day watching it and taking shots as it goes along, surely the illusion fades after a bit?

Anyway I would think it being optical illusion is a slightly more logical answer than the world being flat!

That looks to good to be true..

Trick of lighting. The foreground water is somehow darker in shade than the water that boat is sitting in.

That water looks similar to the water to the right of it near the rocks (and even extends to the left, but not as pronounced). It's possible that maybe there is a reef or sandbar or something under the area you mentioned, and it's just a coincidence that it looks to be under the ship.
