It was only a few days ago when news broke that doctors had removed Terri Schiavo's feed tube but a new law was signed today by US President George W Bush which brings in a controversial new law which forces doctors to keep a severely brain-damaged woman alive.

The houses of Congress passed the bill which allows the Terri's parents ask a federal judge to prolong Terri's life. The measure was ten signed by George Bush less than an hour later.

Terri’s husband, Michael Schiavo, said he was outraged that congressional leaders were intervening in the contentious right-to-die battle. He has battled for years with his wife’s parents over whether she should be permitted to die or be kept alive through the feeding tube.

"I think that the Congress has more important things to discuss," he told CNN, calling the move political and criticising House Majority Leader Tom DeLay, who helped broker the congressional compromise.

A lawyer for Michael Schiavo said the bill could be found unconstitutional. "It is in our opinion; an absolute attack on the notion that we have separation of powers between the co-equal branches of government," attorney Hamden Baskin told CNN.

Bob Schindler visited his daughter late yesterday and said she responded to his teasing by making a face at him. "It tells us she’s still with us," he said.

Outside the hospice, a crowd of about 50 people prayed and sang behind signs bearing such slogans as "Let Terri Live" and "President Bush Please Save Terri".

Terri's life is being held on by fellow human beings, I feel this is the right way to continue things. She is able to breathe on her own but is in need of a feeding tube to keep her alive. Her husband feels that he does not want her to be kept alive in the condition that she is in, but her parents say she could recover with treatment. The doctors have stated that Terri has no hope of recovering; this may be very true but may also prove to be very wrong. In history doctors have continuously been proven wrong, hopefully this will be another one of those scenarios.

That might not be true. A nurse who took care of Terri Schiavo
signed a legal affidavit stating that Terri could eat normally
through the mouth but that her 'husband' wouldn't allow it.
He only wanted the feeding tube, and then he wanted the
feeding tube cut off ....

There's like four threads on Schiavo, on the first page......they'll probably combine them all together for discussion into one thread on this subject.......
