The Washington Monument is 55 feet wide at the base. Whatever that thing is, it looks wider than the area it crosses over (around 50 feet). Unless that’s a blurring affect.

It's a kite. It's quite common to fly those out there especially on nice days like that one in the picture.

It’s a gif patched together from different times. Watch the shadows.

Agreed. Look at the cars on the street in front of the Lincoln Memorial for even more evidence.

we are basically looking at three frames here. As the object appears in the first frame it's sunny the next frame semi-cloudy and third frame cloudy. Regardless of the shadows What the heck is it reply to: underwerks

The trees don’t change.... especially the brownish/orange one..... might be different frames, but I looks like the same day.

Still odd

It is three frames. When you look at the traffic in the three frames, you will see that the supposed object moves pretty slowly in regard to how the traffic changes. The vehicles in the three frames are totally different.

I agree what ever this thing is it must be slower than let's say a projectile

Whatever it is, it's close to the lens, not near the monument. The closeness to the lens make it blurry and affect the perceived speed. Bug or more likely a bird IMO
