This rover has a microphone, so who knows what we will hear?

Yay.

Finally, something that's "all good." It's been awhile.

Go science!

Woot!!!! This was as exciting as watching the moon landing back in 69 (my dad filmed it on his 8mm camera!) , and equally as much as Felix Baumgartner's Red Bull freefall! Wow. Science is awesome.
I'm so grateful my parents encouraged learning!!

The YouTube feed I watched (NASA's official Channel) showed mission control at the moment of landing, plus the first images.

Yes, it was people talking and reporting to each other the data coming to them from the system. It was a real nail-biter. "Confirmation of touchdown" was so exciting!! And then, a few tics later, PICTURES!!! So yeah, you didn't miss anything visual - there was a termination of contact about 20 minutes prior to the landing while it entered the atmosphere and did its thing heading for the landing zone.

It was taking 11 minutes to send messages and 11 minutes more to get a reply back before that.

But the data that came in real time after re-engagement was the thing. Did you see the images?? Like Apollo 13 - system has to go "offline to Mission Control" while it gets its act together.
