At 1200 hours local time today, Coalition troops where ambushed by Iraqi insurgents. After a fierce firefight, 6 Coaltion soldiers where injured, and 24 Iraqi Fighters where killed. This is the latest in a series of attacks this week against coalition and Iraqi Government forces.
A gun battle between insurgents and coalition troops in Baghdad has left 24 attackers dead, the US military says.
Six soldiers were injured when they were ambushed at 1200 (0900GMT) on Sunday, a statement said, without giving further details.

Earlier in the day a suicide bomber killed the head of the police anti-corruption department in the northern Iraqi city of Mosul. Insurgents later attacked his funeral, killing at least two more. The Iraqi cell of al-Qaeda said they carried out the Mosul attack.

It appears that insurgents are again targetting Coalition forces to try and destabalise the situation in Iraq. Most recent attacks have been targetted at either civilians or Iraqi forces, leaving the bulk of the US led coalition troops unscathed in recent weeks.

It seems, that despite the recent elections in Iraq, and US claims of democracy and freedom spreading throughout the region, that there is still a strong and determined insurgency to deal with in Iraq, before anyone can claim this mission a success.

They are panicking. They target weak soft targets almost exclusively now. They seem to have lost the ability to go toe to toe with US/Coalition troops. They ambushed us and we still laid them flat out. The difference in skill and training is quite apparent. They appear to be running very low on well trained fighters. They all seem to be car bomb fodder now. Its still the deadliest place on earth but the tide seems to be turning very much in our favor. The Coalition part of US/Coalition troops more than likely means the insurgents ambushed seasoned US and British marines on patrol. Very big mistake. God bless America and God save the queen! Way to go guys! Bloody good show chaps!
