If you want to say Americans invented the first powered airplane as we currently know them, well then you'd be closer to the truth, although there's even some dispute over that.

Also, let's not forget the it was the British that invented the first modern jet engine (Whittle) and the Germans who invented the first Jet Airplane.

Sorry to take this offtopic like that but denying the European role in the development of flight was something I didn't want to let slide.

Infact even the wright brothers themselves did not make such claims, they merely stated that they had perfected powered flight in a heavier than air craft, and even then it was some years before flying became sensible let alone safe. Continuing your anology, just because the french invented mayonaise doesnt mean that you should only buy french, personally im partial to hellmans mayo with my chips!!!!!

I hear ya, everytime I see that page it just cracks me up.

To end this topic once and for all, Airbus aeroplanes are better than Boeing aeroplanes.

The world's fastest airliner that is currently in operation is Airbus A380. It can fly at a speed of up to 0.89 Mach.

The airliner with the longest range in the world is Airbus A340-500. It has a range of 16.700 kilometers.

The world's airliner with the biggest number of seats is Airbus A380. It has 555 seats.

The TOP speed might be 0.89 but the cruising speed is lower.

The 777-200LR/300LR have ranges over 9000 miles.

No. I have given link to Boeing's site where it says that the 777 has a range of only 5,955 miles. You have given a link to an aviation magazine's site. Who do you think knows better what is the range of the plane: an aviation magazine or the manufacturer of the plane?

the link you gave was for the 777-300 , not the extended range or longer range versions.

But Airbus has two advantages: speed and number of seats.

The ORIGINAL 777-200 and 300 had a 5000 mile range. The 200LR and 300LR are different airplanes. They have a 9000+ nautical mile range.

At that website it says that the 777-200LR can fly at a speed of up to 0.84 Mach. The A340-500 can fly at a speed of up to 0.86 Mach. So that website doesn't prove that the 777-200LR can fly faster than the A340-500.

I'm really happy for it, but I didn't say that the 200LR is faster. I said the TOP speed was 0.86 but the cruising speed would be lower. I said the 200LR had more range. which is true.
