If you were going to go in space, or get stranded on a deserted island...or just generally become a total hermit, and you could only take (10) music albums with you, what would they be?

Just (10) for...the rest of your life?

Would you take one of the top 10 of 10 different music genres (i.e. classical, jazz, rock, country, folk, blues, etc)? Or, would you choose a certain genre? Remember, you're going to have to listen to this, and only this, for the rest of your life!

So...what would YOU pick?

BTW...I'm in the process of selecting just such things now. I fear it won't be long before we'll all need those things.

Some people would pick all Grateful Dead, or maybe the Beatles, or Elvis, or Zepplin. Maybe Jimmy Hendrix, or Pink Floyd...I mean "All Along the Watchtower" is pretty damn awesome, right? Or, does "Shine on you Crazy Diamond" ever get old??

"Stairway to Heaven" can get pretty old after a while, but I personally have a reason for that (i.e it was a good song to go take a dump by when you worked on radio alone at night because it was 7:23 long). I digress.

Maybe it's Ozzy, or some death metal band...what would YOU pick?

What about some stuff like...

Mannheim Steamroller - Fresh Aire (I - IV)?

Peter Tosh?

Jethro Tull?

Stravinsky?

John Lee Hooker?

BB King?

Stevie Ray Vaughn?

Maybe the Del Tones, or George Clinton, Parliment, Funkadelic?

How about Johnny Cash, or Bonnie Raitt?

Maybe even Lawrence Welk?

How would YOU choose?

Tommy Bolin: Teaser
Tommy Bolin: Private Eyes
Jeff Beck: Wired
Jeff Beck: Blow By Blow
Garth Brooks: Greatest Hits
Yes: Classic Yes
Jimi Hendrix: Axis: Bold As Love
Journey: Infinity
Eagles: Greatest Hits
John Mayer: (Live) Leave the Lights On

A couple of these could be changed out before setting sail but off the top of my head, these would work.

I suspect my choices might be a little bit different to most people here on ATS.

My favourite albums keep on changing depending on my mood and circumstances but some remain favourites throughout everything.
It would be far too easy, and lazy, to list Best of's etc so hence the absence of any Trojan Ska.
In no particular order:

1.The Stone Roses. The Stone Roses.
2. Never Mind The Bollocks, Here's The Sex Pistols. The Sex Pistols.
3. London Calling. The Clash.
4. Inflammable Material. Stiff Little Fingers.
5. Definitely Maybe. Oasis.
6. Levelling The Land. The Levellers.
7. Q, Are We Not Men?: A. We Are Devo! Devo.
8. Power, Corruption & Lies. New Order.
9. White Light, White Heat, White Trash. Social Distortion.
10. The Clash. The Clash. (Original UK release).

Loads more I could mention.

Jock Jams 1 through 10.

Just kidding. I'd probably take a couple of Pink Floyd albums, Zeppelin, black keys, Deltron3030, Doors, Creedence, Blackalicious, Bowie.

So yeah i guess just stuff i really like.

Portishead - Dummy

Stone Temple Pilots - Core

Scientist - Scientist Rids the World of the Curse of the Evil Vampires

Tool - Lateralus

I would not go with poetic songs that reminded me of civilization lost.
I would go with landscape style music:

10 Hydroponic Garden ~ Carbon Based Lifeforms
9 World of Sleepers ~ Carbon Based Lifeforms
8 Waiting for Cousteau ~ Jean Michel Jarre
7 Oxygene ~ Jean Michel Jarre
6 Oasis ~ Kitaro
5 Tunhuang ~ Kitaro
4 China ~ Vangelis
3 The City ~ Vangelis
2 Close to the Edge ~ Yes
and of course
1 Tales From Topographic Oceans ~ Yes
