LARGO ∑ The parents of a man shot to death by police earlier this month have sent a letter of apology to the officer who killed their son, saying they understood he "did what he had to do."

Barbara and David Treat offered "our sincere, heartfelt apologies" to Largo Officer Jeffrey Rogers.

Parents losing a child is beyond words... aleast mine, they must have realized long ago that the path their son was on would lead to something like this and prepared themselves for it.

I went through something similar when my brother died. He was a vagrant for years. Had serious mental issues and refused to stop drinking and get help. He died behind a 711 store in DC. I rest easy at night knowing that he is out of pain and that whereever he is, he is safe. I think that once a family realizes that there is nothing more they can do they only want that person to have peace.
