I've been having this problem in regards to sleeping positions and I was certain it was a "just me" situation. In the conversation with a friend it turns out not to be. He noticed my painful movements whilst putting on my seat belt and totally had it figured out. Her even came up with the words I had in my mind, side sleeper. So now I feel like I'm in a somewhat painful episode of Seinfeld. Not a low talker, a close talker, and all the idiosyncrasies of that show.

Yeppers, I'm now a side sleeper. My Name Is TSA and I'm a side sleeper.

He's suffering from the same thing, side sleeper syndrome. So I'm not alone. I really thought this was an idiotic subject to broach.

Where do I put my arm so I'm not injuring the muscle there? The whole problem is my head rests on my arm, underneath the pillow and stretched out at eye level. I don't know how to get comfortable. Arm here, there, wherever. Curl it up? Still bothers that muscle. Straight ahead, down and to the left....blah blah blah whatever it still seems to suck.

Gods, getting old sucks so much.

My name is elevatedone, I'm a side sleeper too.

I just can't get comfortable in bed. I toss and turn, side, back, arms down at side, arms above my head.... ugh.

I usually only sleep 3-4 hours per night as it is.

I feel your pain. Fortunately, I have perfected "the system," which affords me a mostly restful slumber, except for the rare occasion when I move my arm or hand into an incorrect position and it falls asleep underneath the weight.

Get a nice foofy pillow that doesn't depress so your neck remains elevated and straighter instead of compressing toward the arm in question.

I too am a side sleeper.

Is there any other way to sleep?

That or I found a pillow that helps keep your head elevated at the right position and has like this cutaway hole for your arm, so you still get head support.

I was running into the issue of waking up with the arm of the side I was sleeping being completely numb/asleep.

Edit: Having like a body pillow or something to lay back against while on your side helps too.

I've ended up sleeping on the couch for the support.

I've been going to sleep on my left side, automatically,, for years. Certainly since I've been sleeping in a bedroom which has the window on that side. If I turn onto my back, it doesn't feel right, and it keeps me awake.
It isn't a comfort problem at the time, though I've sometimes woken up with my left arm numb because I've been lying on top of it. And once I must have started too close to the edge and rolled off the bed in the night, which was a very rude awakening. But how would you get into that habit in the first place if you don't find it comfortable?

Look up "wedge pillow with arm hole".

When you see the price you'll need to catch your breath, but divide that price into days and consider how much better you'll feel every single one of them.

Got a really stiff foam pillow for the head, that, I think seems to work well. The foofy one is what I use to support the upper arm. Get it all tucked up to the chest.

Trying to curl up my left arm doesn't seem to help and trying to get comfy with it stretched out here and there doesn't seem to be helping either.

What's "the system", pray tell?

Ksihkehe, I'll get back to you in a moment once I look this up.

It's essentially what you're doing with multiple pillows, but bundled into one for ease.

That's what I was trying to say I had in my post.

So, this looks kinda good after just a few minutes search.

www.amazon.com...=sr_1_12?dchild=1&keywords=wedge+pillow+with+arm+hole&qid=161101651 1&sr=8-12

Most of the others don't quite look like they will do the trick. I'll keep on looking so thanks for the tip, you and others.

Used to be. Went to a specialist. Sleep on my back now. ... Heaven!!

Combination of the right mattress and the right pillow. One size 'does not' fit all.

If you've got kids ... start 'em right.

Pillows! I am a side sleeper and sleep with one between my legs, behind my back, on my front so I snuggle it close which gives your arms some place to stay and you feel like a bug wrapped in a cozy pillowy rug.

Yeah, I still haven't gotten rid of the body pillow I adopted after shoulder surgery.

Be very careful of the arm under head type of sleeping.
You want your head/neck/spine as aligned as possible to reduce further neck issues.

I’m saying this as a side sleeper that now has neck issues.
Back sleeping is the most healthy followed by side sleeping properly.

I had clicked to respond to the OP and by the time I got back round after looking for a link I noticed you already mentioned the hole pillow.

I knew exactly what you meant.

My shoulders are abnormally broad, they just barely were able to jam me in a large bore MRI. They had my chest and shoulders in there just about like a wine cork. It's damn near impossible to sleep on my side. I end up in a strange half-side half-front position. Even with all the tricks my arm ends up numb. Years of competitive swimming did them no favors.

Something that should be kept to oneself.

Where is DB and his review of his My Pillows?

I can't sleep on my back because of low back and neck injuries. My problem is that I have so much trouble getting to sleep at all, in any position.
