Charley Pride dead at 86

Charley Pride, the pioneering black country singer known for such hits as “Kiss an Angel Good Mornin'” and “Is Anybody Goin’ to San Antone,” has died in Dallas, Texas, from complications related to Covid-19, according to his publicist. He was 86.

Born in Sledge, Mississippi, in 1934, Pride picked cotton, played baseball in the Negro leagues, served in the U.S. Army, and worked in a smelting plant in Montana before moving to Nashville and becoming country music’s first black superstar.

My parents were fans of Mr. Pride when I was a kid (yes I'm that old), so I know some his songs. He had a great voice and seemed to be a genuinely nice man. RIP Charley, you will be missed by many.

My parents took me to see him in Branson Missouri. His songs sounded exactly like they did on th radio. He walked down one of the aisles and shook hands wi5h a few people including my dad. My dad was stoked. Rest In Peace Charlie.

Hell, I am a fan of his from way back. I guess that makes me older.

Having grown up just a few miles from the Mississippi River and having passed some of the best days of my youth in her neighborhood, Roll On, Mississippi is probably my favorite song of his.

Then, there was Burgers and Fries and Cherry Pies ...

Oh, hell, don't get me started.

Man, I hate to hear that, he was a really nice guy. First generation fan here myself as well. He had a string of number one hits from the 1960s to the 1980s that includes a bunch of great music. I remember travelling on Route 66 as a kid when "Is Anybody Goin' To San Antone" was a hit. The song's character was travelling on Route 66 as well, for those not familiar with the song. He will be missed, especially by me. Think I'll go put on some of his music right now.

I've never been much of a country music fan, but I had to go listen to a few of his songs tonight. He had a great voice for the genre.

Sad to see him go. No doubt he lived a happy full filled life.

Several Country artist have left us in 2020!
And some remaining have lost loved ones or band members.

Willie Nelson lost his long time drummer Paul English to Neumonia in Feb. 12, 2020.
Then the following month Joe Diffie dies of Covid-19 complications Mar. 29, 2020. I still can't believe hes gone.

Kenny Rogers and several others.

The sad part of living is that every year you see more and more of your loved ones and aquaintences in the ground.
