I read an alternate theory once that contemplated the idea that when a magnet attracts a nearby stationary object it is actually inducing inertia into it. It's fun to think about.

That is not correct unless you manage to keep the superconductor and magnet perfectly stationary. Even the slightest sound will cause the superconductor and or magnets to vibrate and induce a current in the superconductor that will lock it in place.
