Lots of discussion about masks lately... Thought i'd just leave this here

And just for the record hes not talking about cloth masks

RETIRED SURGEON Sam Laucks, has this to say about wearing masks:
www.facebook.com...

“OK, here’s my rant about masks:

I have spent the past 39 years working in the field of surgery. For a significant part of that time, I have worn a mask. I have worked with hundreds (probably thousands) of colleagues during those years, who have also worn masks. Not a single one us of became ill, passed out or died from lack of oxygen. Not a single one of us became ill, passed out or died from breathing too much carbon dioxide. Not a single one us of became ill, passed out or died from rebreathing a little of our own exhaled air. Let’s begin here by putting those scare tactics to rest!
(It is true that some people, with advanced lung diseases, may be so fragile that a mask could make their already-tenuous breathing more difficult. If your lungs are that bad, you probably shouldn’t be going out in public at the present time anyway; the consequences if you are exposed to Covid-19 would likely be devastating.)

Next time this retarded retired surgeon takes a rip off whatever he is smoking he should put a mask on then watch all the fluid droplets flow right through as ge exhales. But lets assume the mask does block some virus attached to fluid. That fluid will dry up and evaporate. Will the virus evaporate with it? If so then you solved nothing. If not you will get a megadose next time you put that mask on. And lets be honest: almost no one is using a new mask every 4 hours.

So this guy here says masks are ineffective. He also is an MD with empirical experience. Who is right?

Can anyone find a legit study showing masks are effective? I can only find studies showing they are not, and those studies are all criticized with no study as evidence to the contrary.

There are states where they are telling people that they have to wear a mask in their homes, around their own families. This comes out to wearing a mask pretty much 24 hours a day.

Ask this surgeon if he wore his masks 24 hours a day. Then get back to me.

This is not about wearing masks. It's about conditioning you to do what you are told without critical or independent thought.

Question, how many of them got sick off patients they treated or passed diseases onto patients despite wearing a mask?

I don't seem to see that info anywhere in this retired surgeons rant.

Or you did catch it before they could test you for it and you did not know it.

ETA i have office space in a clinic and at least half the staff has tested positive since may and this clinic is a specialist which does not deal with covid patients all day.

And, I haven't worn a mask during this whole thing prior to this week, only because they've now become mandatory inside. I chose the cheapest dollar store bandana I could find. Like that #'s basically seethrough. Still haven't caught covid, what does that prove?

My point is, anecdotes are pointless. I've yet to see any actual data proving masks specifically stop or reduce covid-19 transmission. I've heard a whole lot of fearmongering propaganda, seen businesses threatened etc. Even with everyone wearing masks there's still a rise in covid cases. Except when politicians wanna party or people wanna go nuts in the streets celebrating biden winning. Apparently, that # doesn't cause covid even when nobody's wearing masks and passing liquor bottles around in the streets.

Yet I hear the flu is basically non-existent because of all the covid measures.

Use your own #ing brain dude. Have a bit of common sense and critical thinking and don't just listen blindly to what other people say and believe.
If you work around covid patients, sure wear a mask, it's probably better than nothing.

For the majority of people, in the majority of situations where they're now required, yet seemingly don't seem to be doing much, you have to honestly question the efficacy and point to it. Especially when it's being selectively enforced through fairly excessive force and penalty.

They're certainly not foolproof. I personally think the virus' incredibly perfect ability to attack human cells via the ACE-2 receptors has given it preeminence in terms of transmissibility (sp?)

When we had our big outbreak at work, a few of the by-far most careful individuals got it. Most who got it, got very sick (not to the point of hospitalization, though a couple came close), but nearly all described as their worst illness ever, including chicken pox, noroviruses, colds, flus, etc.

I was surrounded by them 60+ hours a week. Slept in the same room and lived in the same house while my wife had it (not tested, assumed by symptoms including the lost smell/taste) for 2 weeks back in February.

I think there's a strong genetic / immune system correlation as to whether and how sick one gets, but all of us either have had it, or will eventually. Many won't be aware. The experience at work - where most who got it were pretty sick, and a few of us were completely spared has me at a bit of a loss for anyother explanation.

Here’s a suggestion to all the anti-maskers who are also typically Trump supporters:

For the next 2 months, do nothing but wear masks, socially distance yourself, and clean your hands frequently with hand sanitizer. Why? Well, if you all unite on this one of two things will happen:

1: you’ll prove that COVID and all the pro-COVID news is a sham if the numbers keep going up despite your unified efforts.

2: you’ll Kill the COVID by following CDC guidelines while giving Trump one last win before he’s cheated out of office and throw a big “F-U” to the left by taking the victory away from Biden.

Either way...wear your mask and your team wins!!

CDC July 2020 Study: For every 100 hospitalized Covid-19 patients, 85 of them wore a mask most/all the time when they contracted Covid-19.

techstartups.com...

I guess if you want to contract Covid-19, wear a mask!

So..that statement makes no difference in the context of this thread or any of your other posts and is pretty much misdirection in the form of an appeal to emotions.

Like all the rest of this mask #.

Nothing but a logical fallacy.

Covid panic is all just a giant logical fallacy based on an appeal to emotion.
