I’ve often wondered if addictive personality was genetic.
My brother in law has quit drinking because it had became a problem.
That’s four generations on his side of alcohol abuse... his son in 18... hmmm

ETA... my wife reminded me that her dad was not the actual genetic decent of her grandfather.
So maybe environmental and not genetic..

You wouldnt believe what causes alcoholism.....I drank for 25 years and stopped cold turkey once I learned what I was dealing with....and it wasnt a 12-step program that taught me....those are so pucked up......

The cause of alcoholism is the SAME FOR EVERYONE.
How about that?
Its not individual or personal weakness......when you learn the truth you realize its STRENGTH not weakness that is the keystone issue leading to alcoholism.

Its not addictive behaviour its INSTINCTIVE BEHAVIOUR and it has been weaponized against us all so a few plicks could get rich and powerful.Tis a sad fact that what the masses know of alcohol is contrived lies.

My grandmother was a very wise woman. She used to say there is something good about everyone, even if it's only to learn how you don't want to be.

Look for the good things about it, and you'll maybe start to value this time with your father more. It sounds like he's crusty and set in his ways, but I'm sure in there around the prickles and crust, there is valuable stuff you're learning. And you certainly seem to be soaking up memories.

That is very wise. Thanks for sharing your grandmother's wisdom.

It's not all THAT bad around here. This was mostly supposed to be a humorous OP about a certain kind of dad. He's pretty neutral most of the time. But when the toolbox comes out he rages at the small stuff and that's where it gets kind of humorous, as in the example of the video.

To highlight, the argument we had the other day with the kitchen sink.

Dad: "Okay now don't touch anything."

Me *not touching anything*

Kitchen faucet falls loose

Dad: "Don't touch it!"

Me: "I didn't touch anything. It fell because it's loose now"

Faucet falls loose into the sink

Dad: "I SAID NOT TO TOUCH IT DAMNIT!"

Me: "I'm standing back here not touching anything!"

Dad: "Okay hold the faucet in place then. Make sure it's centered."

Me the whole time

It's kind of like when you're the one holding the flashlight on the workspace. No matter how well you hold that light in the right spot, Dad's hands will always be in the way of that light and he'll keep directing you to move the flashlight around

Sorry your Dad failed to stack up.

As an aside, even us Aussies don't drink fosters. Could be a part of the problem.

To take something from this, at least you know what type of a Dad you would like to be ...

Cheers Mate.

No one does. Pretty sure my dad is keeping the whole operation afloat.
