My parents were German immigrants, but I was raised in SA since primary school (it was Afrikaans schools, but I was in the English classes).

So apart from German, I speak English (I'd like to think) en ek praat Afrikaans.

But I studied so many years at English universities, I'd say English is my dominant language.

I suppose the 10 00 or so German South Africans, are a bit like the Greeks or Portuguese - an ethnic minority within an ethnic minority.

This "Lone white peaceful protestor " was an idiot, lucky for him he got arrested. He knew tensions are high yet he walks right up to the stage interrupting the speaker. Clever, very clever.
There are times when you leave it alone, stay away.

That depends on your interpretation of "idiotic".
As Chris Wyatt says above he must have known he's going to be a martyr of sorts.

It's clearly not as effective as direct action in an immediate sense.

But I think history teaches that passive resistance and peaceful civil disobedience is very effective in the long term.
But there were Christian prayer meetings in the area at the time, and I assume he came from one of those.
And within that tradition (and also Gandhi's Satyagraha within Hinduism) it has been proven to be highly effective.

I only need to think back of the Treatment Action Campaign and our passive resistance campaigns for HIV/AIDS treatment (my only activism as late as 2006), and although it took a while, HIV medications are now available in the public health sector.

That depends on your interpretation of "idiotic".

My interpretation would be this. If there is a rally with a lot of angry disgruntled black people about white farmers and whatever else grievances they have, you as a white man go up to the speaker and interrupt him.

This is a good interpretation of an idiot.
