Hey ... I liked that short video (it got straight to the point after the small intro ... much appreciated!).
Should we reply to the WOW signal?
Hmm. Interesting question, though the answer is probably not so relevant, because even if our reply was intercepted, it would be after the next
micro-nova of our own star as it hits the galactic current sheet, and if it led to real 'contact', it would likely not be with our current
civilization, which is unlikely to survive that long. Just my thinking.
Reply? Sure ... go ahead hah ... why not?
Our descendants might get a reply, or maybe even visitors, who may wonder what happened to the technological civilization that replied to them. (or
more likely, they will know what happened, and may take pity upon our probably-stone-age technology descendants at that time?)
Depends. There could be monsters out there. Something along the lines of the Battleship movie from a few years ago to "To Serve Man" from the Outer
Limits/Twilight Zone era. To think we would run into the real life version of the Federation from Star Trek is a bit naive don't you think? More
likely to run into Klingons/Cardassians/Romulans and etc.
But a thought here. Why not blast the other planets in the solar system with a SETI signal. As MerkabaMeditation has pointed out if there are
interstellar flight capable aliens in the solar system where would they be? The Moon, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, and all the other little moons and
sizeable rocks orbiting the Sun.
If they think they have been spotted they might answer back. Or even just show up.
Here's Johnny!!

Id say no, only one of the potential outcomes would be positive. Assuming of course we aren't already being "watched".
We would hope they would be benevolent, but what are the chances? So many negative outcomes are possible. They could likely regard us as animals wipe
us out and mine the planet for its minerals. They could enslave us, or hit us with some galactic disease by accident. An interstellar civilization is
likely to exist like bees or ants with a hive mindset, and individuality is non-existent. My theory is they know we are here already, but we are the
crappy neighborhood in the universe, they only observe and occasionally sample our fauna and people, but leave us alone because we are too far gone
already.
If you use the movie "The fifth element" as a reference, which is how we should approach all life altering events, we see that when our history is
reviewed by an outside source, it sure looks like we are monsters. that is all.
If we as a society can't change, then no, we don't need to involve any other species in our battle to be the worst cancer imaginable. They already
know.
Imagine you were a nomadic space faring society and you picked up a radio signal coming from a planet indicating technology, intelligent life etc.
It would also indicate a very high likelihood that this society had refined material's, packaged neatly everything YOU would need for your own
society and also that if the biochemistry of the planet was suitable you may also harvest other resources.
Such a predatory civilization destroying, world ravaging society the staple of thing's like the Independence day movie may actually potentially
exist, how long they would survive would depend on there own ingenuity, there ability to gather the resources they needed for there long duration stay
in space presumably after they lost there own home world or it became over populated etc.
There ethic's may be very different to our own, they may not see a friendly planet as a nice pet but as a weak, stupid and ready source of materials
for there own survival, how long would they stay near a potentially biohazardous world?, perhaps long enough to strip all traces of city's in there
search for refined material's, to destroy all roads in there search for cables and other potentially useful refined products and even to establish
colony's on the less biohazardous environment's of such a solar system such as for example the moon.
Have we already been stripped by a previous raid, was there once a more advanced civilization here that was stripped down to it's bones them some and
the world only left once no more easily found or obtained refined or readily available raw resources were to be had.
What possible evidence is there, claim's of ruins - or otherwise structures - on the moon some of which may be indicative of a past human or at least
earth based civilization and other's that may be evidence of either surviving habitation by something or somebody or even later colonization by the
raiders. matrixdisclosure.com...
And of course a Nuclear Physicist by the name of John Brandenburg believes that Mars was wiped out by a huge nuclear explosion or several of them.
Such a nomadic space faring society would perhaps circle the galaxy or run up and down it's spiral arms raiding young civilizations that it deemed
easy prey for there resources, like a hunter gatherer it would return every so often to see if the same worlds it had raided before had spawned new
civilizations that had gathered, refined and packaged neatly all the materials it craved for it's own survival.
Other such civilizations though may be more benign and undoubtedly there would be some that could stand up to such a society but it all then becomes
a matter of scale.
So perhaps planet based civilizations pouring out greeting's like idiot's is not a good idea.
Or to quite Ming the Merciless from the Flash Gordon movies (woefully under rated science fiction space opera classic with a backing track by Queen
that was worth watching the movie for alone, the 1980 version).
“Pathetic earthlings. Hurling your bodies out into the void, without the slightest inkling of who or what is out here. If you had known anything
about the true nature of the universe, anything at all, you would've hidden from it in terror.”
Also would you put your child in danger deliberately, think about it the time a signal takes to get to another world you will not even be around only
if you are very lucky will your distant descendant's and of course they are your children many generations removed, do you really want to tell other
being's were your kid's live?.
Personally I think it is a bit like an intelligence test, those that send the signal are like lemming's running off a cliff so not very smart for all
there intelligence and those that don't but can are a bit wiser even if they are not top flight physicists with a fetish for lil green men.

The first intentional radio transmission to space, called the Arecibo message, wasn't until 1974, but we've been leaking radio signals into space
for over 100 years.
