In Canada, and other commonwealth countries, we wear poppies during Remembrance times in November, and up to November 11th, to show our support for fallen soldiers and veterans. The collection of money for poppy pins supports our legion, which in turn (usually) supports veterans, seniors, and communities.

It's a really big deal here. Like memorial day in the states, but very somber.
