OK we hear very little if anything about the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact.

It's an agreement between States that says those states must award all electoral votes to the winner of the national popular vote.

Looks like 15 states are doing this and a few others might !!

Lots of EC votes at stake if this is actually happening !!

Some legal issues coming I'm sure.

WELL ? Does anybody know anything about this unconstitutional madness ?😆

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact (NPVIC) is an agreement among a group of U.S. states and the District of Columbia to award all their electoral votes to whichever presidential candidate wins the overall popular vote in the 50 states and the District of Columbia. The compact is designed to ensure that the candidate who receives the most votes nationwide is elected president, and it would come into effect only when it would guarantee that outcome.[3][4] As of October 2020, it has been adopted by fifteen states and the District of Columbia, although it is suspended in Colorado.[2] Including Colorado, these states have 196 electoral votes, which is 36% of the Electoral College and 73% of the 270 votes needed to give the compact legal force.

Certain legal questions may affect implementation of the compact. Some legal observers believe states have plenary power to appoint electors as prescribed by the compact; others believe that the compact will require congressional consent under the Constitution's Compact Clause or that the presidential election process cannot be altered except by a constitutional amendment.

I know this isn’t what this says. But it sounds like they are trying to literally nationalize the popular (read us) vote...

What could go wrong? Btw Gratz to HRC on making the EC

Anything else before next week we ought to be aware of?

Let me guess - if Trump actually does win the popular vote this time around, they have the option to "opt out" of their own little scheme?

And to think people.

They're doing everything that's possibly in their power to make sure this country has a pedophile, family member widower 'dating' Pornstar ( see the latest news about pornhub) as a 'first son'.

And they think Trump made a mockery out of the office ?

Hahahahaaaa.

The decision comes after the 2016 election when President Donald Trump beat Democratic nominee Hillary Clinton not by the popular vote, but by the combined votes of the Electoral College. Trump got 304 of their votes while Clinton got 227, but she got about 3 million more popular votes than Trump did.

That might mean more if HRC. Yes I said Clinton wasn't an 'elector'.

heavy.com...

Washington (CNN)Hillary Clinton said Tuesday she is one of the 538 electors in the Electoral College.

www.cnn.com...

So get that straight.

The 'lady' that lost last go round gets to determine THIS GO round with some added 'insurance'.

GRAND THEFT ELECTION.

That's not what it says. It says the states can punish electors who go against their pledge to vote the way they agreed to.

The problem is, they are human and can change their mind based on all sorts of factors. For example if it came out that a candidate broke the law and the head of the FBI came out and said they did but they didn't "intend to", that could make people change their mind about that candidate.

The number of people saying the EC allows swing states to have too much power and allows a few states to decide the election.

Yeah, they really say that. I guess they don't understand that a state like California or New York with a huge population would decide an election for 20+ other states and they'd have no control over that. That is WHY the EC was formed in the first place and why it's in the Constitution. It's not perfect but it is necessary to avoid this exact problem. Otherwise the top five populous states would control every presidential election for eternity and smaller states would have no say.

What does all this mean? It means the DNC and the left know there is no way in hell Biden wins without some bullchit happening. Smells very much like Any Means Necessary watch a few publications floating this prospect

Fair enough.

But I still think the democrats will seat Biden to the Iron Throne regardless.

How each state casts its electoral votes is up to them. Until SCOTUS rules otherwise

Is Pelosi going to fumigate him out with drunk-breath and close-talking? Anti-trumpers can scream at the moon all night; The end result will still only be a salt harvest.

I still think the democrats won't make the same mistake they made with Hillary.

They trusted the electorate.

They won't do it again.

I honestly feel that Trump could get the popular vote, gain the amount in the Electoral College, but Biden will still become president.

I just checked the state legislature by party affiliation for 2020 since that is who selects the EC. I still wouldnt worry about that compact after further review, but if i were to pick a state that makes me the most uneasy it would be Ohio.
edit on 29-10-2020 by drewlander because: (no reason given)

Oh and the reason why i checked this is to consider currently which states would be most likely to have faithless electors without the compact but applied the compact to see how concerned I would be today if it were in place.

In paradoxical fashion the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is just mental masturbation; states, especially "swing" states, will never give up their individual voting power.

Under the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact two outcome can occur.

1) the states popular vote matches the national popular vote. Under this outcome the National Popular Vote Interstate Compact is irrelevant.

2) the states popular vote does not match the national popular vote. Under this outcome the people of the state would have to accept that their individual vote doesn't count as they throw their support behind a candidate they don't approve of... in short what sane group of people would allow that?

The National Popular Vote Interstate Compact at the most has the potential to disrupt one election before it is relegated to the dustbin of history.

I know it won't happen but wouldn't it be glorious if Trump wins Clintons state. And she was forced to vote for Trump.
