I normally try to write a cheerful letter/note inside my Christmas Cards. Having been "in" the military as a child/spouse for 50 years I have friends
all over the world who I keep in touch with.
Normally, I write about all the good things that have happened and not complain or drag people down. If something really really bad happened like a
death, I'll only give it one line.
But this year??????
Some of you are so witty. I'm not and I know it.

I need an apolitical opening line about 2020
since I am a senior citizen.
I had 2 major surgeries.
The state department flew our exchange student home early due to COVID and no flights available, on a military flight with others from her former
soviet country, now independent on the border of a war torn country.
I have family in Seattle (a set of best friends who were terrified because CHAD/CHAZ type people caused problems in their neighborhood).
I have relatives in Portland.
A brother in LA who had a homeless encampment settle in his back yard and the police would not do anything about it.
A brother in LA - whose wife's relatives had homes burned out.
I normally travel a lot, but my ONLY trip this year was a one day drive this week to see fall leaves change color (my grandchildren declared this the
most boring outing ever)- our cruise was cancelled and we may have lost the money for it.
I have a mother in her late 80's and COVID kept us all at home and only the heater/Air need let me know what season it was outside.
My favorite store I went to once a week for fun shut down and went out of business, I could not go to it until a month ago just to see the going out
of business sign.
What a year.
SO -
I'm asking ideas from you creative types with a great sense of humor
I need an opening line about the year 2020
