So watching the old school movie Leon: The Professional, ot was Natalie Portman’s first movie.

According to IMDB, her parents didn’t like the smoking. She was like 12,so they negotiated rules about smoking

Good parents, right, but

According to the original screen play, the 12 year old was suppose to be the lover of the killer.

Smoking bad but pedophile was Ok

In Hollywood...

Smoking gives you cancer.

Pedophilia is the easiest way a minor can advance their career.

Any questions?

Wasn't that based on a French movie?

Hollywood is built on child exploitation.

Disney, Nickelodeon and Porn Hub all recruit barely legal adults, that can pass as children.

What does that tell you?

Have you seen the movie?

The only pedophilia in that movie would be in your own mind — and that you chose to see it that way.

If anything — it’s anti-pedophilia.

I have seen it. You missed the point.

The original screenplay called for 12 year old Natalie to be "Leon's" lover... and her parents were OK with that.

That's the point. Smoking...bad! Sex with an adult... good!

That’s not how I read it.

I did read that she was the aggressor — in the story.

Stories can be filmed and edited without any real interaction.

Real smoking is harmful.

Anyway — I love the movie.

I believe there was a French version right?? Or it was based on a French movie. In the directors cut little natalie put on an inappropirate dress and basically threw herself at Leon. It was quite shocking as i had only ever seen the theatrical cut on cable tv when i was younger.

I thought the extra scenes of her assisting Leon with his hits was cool. Boy was i shocked when that scene of her trying to get it with him came up after. I am glad that scene was cut and i did not see it as a kid. I sold that DVD years ago. If I could get that version with that scene cut I would probably get it again.

Reddit, instigram, Snapchat and others like Tic-tok, all rely on soon to be adults.
Is it the service provider or the culture they are marketing to?

For myself, as a person who is involved in the entertainment industry since I was a teen. (I'm not involved in film, I have worked on one televised gubernatorial debate- and likely ran spotlight for some ice shows that were televised ) I have not seen the exploitation narrative you suggest.

From a parenting perspective, parents are usually allowed on set if something is controversial with a child under the age of 18.

You might be fishing for the wrong scapegoats here. The 70s were 50 years ago.

It was shocking then and shocking now. A really awful movie. The actors did a great job but poor Natalie was so exploited. Her family really sold her out for fame. No little girl should ever be put in the position to sexually entice an adult. Period. It's easy to get emotionally involved the sweet relationship but ignore how inappropriate that relationship is.

Shame for exposing young Natalie to such a disgusting script very likely confusing her about relationships with adults.

Disgusting Hollywood, pushy parents. It's sick.

You do realize that a movie isn't real?

The movie wasn't even the same as the screenplay so what difference does it make what the "original screenplay" was?

There was no sex with an adult in the movie so the point is moot.

The original screenplay had her killing people. Where is the pearl clutching over that?

ETA: And it is hard to believe people can't differentiate between a minor playing a role with sexual overtones and the casting couch.

What I find as ironic is how many people talk about all this pedophilia as if it's something new.

Hardly! It's been going on since the beginning of time. Still sick, but certainly nothing new.

As for the movies and hollyweird, why pick The Professional when there are so many other better examples?

Blue Lagoon
Exorcist
Quest for Fire
Taxi Driver
Scream
Porkies
Outlaw Josie Wales

Didn't realise the film Leon had a different title in the US.
Fantastic movie. I don't recall seeing anything untoward in it. If anything it dealt with a young girl/teacher type crush - but the 'teacher' did not go 'there'.

Lot of people on this site have child porn on the brain, must be all the 'research' they do into the subject.

Wow. What #ty parents. They raised an Oscar-winning Harvard graduate with both published peer reviewed papers and traditional literature who also produces movies, and uses her psychology degree to consult on films. Ugh. And she's charitable, an activist, and a mother? AND she's funny?

Damn. Her parents definitely screwed her up.
