Will the Attempt to Kidnap Whitmer Tank Trump's Chances

Well looks like the Lefties have their ammo pre-election...

NY Times - Six men were arrested and accused of plotting with a militia group to kidnap Gov. Gretchen Whitmer of Michigan, the authorities announced on Thursday.

The men, who the F.B.I. said espoused anti-government views, had talked about taking Ms. Whitmer, a Democrat, hostage since at least the summer, according to a criminal complaint filed in federal court and unsealed on Thursday.

Trump's approval is already waning....this won't help i"m sure...

What do you think? Is this enough ammunition to use against the Right and bring Trump down?

I bet the Michigan Militia group actually turned them in once they established that they may have been serious. The Militia does have ex-cops as members and I am sure they would inform the cops if someone approached them about it. There may be a few renagade militia members, but most are somewhat ok....I mean, they are headstrong but not as bad as antifa and black lives matter is. Most are pretty good people. I knew a few people that were talking about joining, a little nuts, but they would never do anything like kidnapping.

Platforms like this are likely being monitored right now, especially after this development. Obviously, these guys went further than simply discussing a plot, but there's no doubt that their earlier discussions were what brought the lean on them in the first place.

Lots of bravado and not-so-veiled threatening ideations being casually expressed around here in recent years, and the big difference is that homegrown terrorism isn't as vague a reality as it's been in previous periods of time. Words have power, and published words have that much more power. Increasing power brings with it increasing levels of ramification, and that's important to always remember. This is a public forum, and not a private email chain. Be aware of how your posts can be interpreted, regardless of your actual intent.

Just be responsible and careful with your expressions. The 1sr Amendment isn't and has never been a suicide pact and there are those times when that fact is much more operative than during other times. This may end up being one of those times when dramatic expression is best held a lot more closely to oneself than at other times.

Trying to watch this on the news now (I have Hulu and my Internet is not cooperating atm).

Seems to me this would indicate Trump is opposing these suspected kidnappers. The arrests were made by the FBI, which is a part of the DoJ which in turn is answerable to President Donald Trump. The fact that he hasn't stepped in to stop the raids is in itself an indication Trump does not support this type of solution. Neither do I. I have consistently condemned Antifa and BLM for their violence, and I condemn this for the same reason.

I'm trying to figure out what the end goal was anyway. What were they going to do with her after they kidnapped her? Any orders she gave at that point would be under duress, so she couldn't really rescind any of her idiocy. Last I heard, it didn't sound like anyone up there would pay to get her back either.

Methinks someone didn't think this through very far.

What they neglected to tell us is that the FBI planned, instigated and orchestrated the entire thing.

Lets see, which examples to use.

This one post lists 3 great examples: Garland, the Newburgh Four and the first attack on the WTC.

New information: FBI was with the terrorists at the Garland attack.

Never heard of them. I don't pay much attention to things like that because I do not believe we need an organized group for a malitia, people of the state will come together if needed to protect our rights and citizens interests. At this time we don't need them yet.

The FBI discovered the plot through an informant who is also part of a known militia that the men tried to recruit from as part of a wider effort to 'take' the state capitol with 200 people.

After the Unite the Right rallies in Charlottesville, it has been plain that the extreme right-wing are violent and criminal.

After the actions of Antifa, it has been plain that the extreme left-wing are violent and criminal.

While they point at each other, I can't help but notice that they both consist of American citizens, and that neither side wants to 'wave the olive branch' to achieve their societal goals.

They clearly just want to brawl.

Trump should disown the alt-right and the Dems should disown the extreme left then they can get on with actually administrating a country rather than the rise in partisanship and violence that has occurred since 2015.

It's seems that threatening to do something is worse than actually showing up and burning towns down. It makes me wonder why the alphabet agencies didn't try to stop those.

Unfortunately the extreme fringe on either side will always act this way. I've always said publicly and privately that I want to see her tossed out legally. I don't want her hurt (except for her pride) in any way, that's not the proper way to do things. But yeah, you don't care about stuff like that if you can point your finger at Trump. Nice try.

Because you have to been invited to help by State and Local officials to do their policing. Not so much when you have federal level crimes going on. But you have to ignore the murder, felony level theft, wide spread arson and other federal level crimes such as civil liberties of t(e business owners, etc.

Additionally, the stupid 2nd Amendment was written precisely to throw spanners like this into ordered political process. It might fit with the situation back 100 years ago, but one would hope the world would have progressed beyond that situation.

It's about time America stopped the partisanship and did the actual pinnacle of civilization role it pretends to.
