How does any of that prevent a firearm from getting into the hands of someone who will use it in an unlawful manner?

The same way making it illegal to have a gun will keep a criminal from getting one.

It's like putting the ambulance at the bottom of a cliff...

Where would you put it? At the top?

TheRedneck

It might be more effective and economic to erect a safety fence. An ambulance clearly will not stop a wave of stupid.

And how do you know those cell phones weren't loaded?

Don't you guys know how to Internet?

do you even know how to understand weapons? If you want to have this discussion, a tiny bit of knowledge would help.

a military rifle capable of both automatic and semiautomatic fire, utilizing an intermediate-power cartridge.
a nonmilitary weapon modeled on the military assault rifle, usually modified to allow only semiautomatic fire.

So an "Assault" weapon is either a military weapon that fires full auto, or one that looks like one of those, but only shoots semi auto? Is that what your definition is?

My definition? You embiggen me.

I seems like those who support fascism are the ones who want to ban firearms, isn’t that a funny coincidence?

“Think how we think, or we’ll attack you, doxx you, burn your building down, set forest fires, invade your privacy. If you want to defend yourselves against our blatant fascism, you can’t, law abiding citizens are not allowed firearms”

Stopping law abiding citizens from legally owning guns does not make guns vanish from existence

Criminals will always have firearms

And the 2nd was not written for home defence, personal protection or hunting. It was written to ensure a nationwide defence against tyrannical government.

Coincidentally, ‘tyrannical’ is the very definition of the dEmocrat party and their disgusting support base

Exactly

That reads like the leftist playbook

I see the one single line where it mentions that fascism is usually associated with the right wing

But if it quacks like a duck ........ leftists and the dEmocrat party are 100% fascist to the core

Is the 2020 Ford Fiero built on the same chassis as the Model A?

Nope, and the two guns mentioned aren't built on the same "chassis" either.

I mean, they both use gasoline... they both have four wheels... both have a motor... so I guess if you wanted to split hairs, you might could claim that. No one would take you seriously, but that rarely stops people.

Also, it is splitting hairs because it makes no difference in regards to the new design running afoul of the laws in some states.

Laws which run afoul of the US Constitution, of course.

You are nitpicking my word choice, as if it makes a difference to the point being made.

It does. Words mean things, and some people have learned how to shift and weaponize those meanings. One good example is that some people are actually trying to change the meaning of "assault" to mean "black and scary."

Which, come to think of it, is probably racist...

WTF is a "2020 Ford Fiero"?

Hell if I know. I made it up. I don't drive Fords.

Maybe I should have said "Fiesta"? Is that a Ford?

I don't know Ruger says the the 10/22 Tactical is "a tried and true Ruger design that ensures consistent, reliable performance." They were modified from an existing platform.

Whether the laws are unconstitutional makes no difference to the point being made or whether the modifications to those guns are made in a factory or afterwards. You would have had a gotcha if I had said "aftermarket mods". I didn't.

You can continue to argue semantics but the fact is that legislators can and do create definitions. I guess if you were the SCOTUS your opinion would matter, but you are not.

... and Granola is a type of breakfast cereal.

These things are not as related to each other as the spin would attempt to portray.

Imagine what would happen, though, if the "attempted assassination" was done with a weapon with more killing power.

Um, a gun was used. AFAIK, guns are what produces "killing power". But the type of gun was used to conceal itself until the shooter was ready. If the shooter had a big scary black rifle, he would have been seen approaching and likely not able to do the damage he did.

I just don't get why attacking assault weapons over this event is even a thing. The problem here is a thug who doesn't value human life. We should remove that.

Even though they are thugs, you can't kill people. That is not putting value on human life.

They couldn't shoot you, though, if they had no access to guns. Do you see how that works?

Yes, and if I was made of glass, I'd break when I fall.

Clearly, though, you are in fact made of metal.

I'll happily give up every weapon I have the minute you can guarantee me that nobody else will ever have a gun.

I'm sure there are people who only drink to keep the DT's at bay, too...

See, criminals don't follow rules, which is why they are "criminals" in the first place.

So Yea, I'll keep mine, and continue to hope I never have to kill anything more than paper, beer cans and occasionally a squirrel.

Do you see how that works?

What? Not using a armament for the purpose defined by the 2nd Amendment? How lawless.

Do you have a squirrel hunting license and only shoot them between October and December or September and February out of state?

I honestly can't speak to the kick from experience, just what the literature (and a little legend) says. That's my dream gun; I don't own one (yet!). I do own a .444 Marlin which is pretty damn awesome in itself, and I can shoot it pretty much all day long if I do so properly (Marlin suggests not bracing one's shoulder either).

Well, I can shoot it until I run out of money. Last time I looked, .444 factory loads are about $4-5 a shot.

My Marlin holds 7 rounds, six down and one in the chamber. That's about a quarter as many shots as a 10/22. So given the choice of being hit with four .22s or one .444, I think I'd take the .22s. Better chance of survival.

I promise you, if I manage to get me a Weatherby .460 Magnum, I'll let you know. Just remind me while I'm busy crowing about it all across ATS.

Has it occurred to you that your definition of a 'leftist' is not the same as that of others, and that this is why you have difficulties with other word definitions and with ideological concepts?

No, you could still have some snipers employed to shoot those attempting to jump. The more of them, the fewer would actually 'commit suicide'. It's the 'freedom' way. Pew, pew...

That's the action... which is a hallmark of all Ruger firearms. Are you now claiming that all Rugers are modifications?

We've had this argument before. Yes, legislators can pass any law they want, Constitutional or not. Enforcement is another story, unless people decide that they are helpless. I am not helpless. I am The Redneck, and I didn't get that name out of a box of Crackerjacks.

I got it by standing firm for what I believe in.

Technically every change is a modification. That is what the word means.

We have not had this discussion before. This discussion isn't about enforcement. Someone asked which one of the rifles in their post was an "assault rifle". I pointed out that since legislators can create definitions the one on the bottom fit the definition in some states.

Whatever you are going on about is neither here nor there, in regards to what they asked.
