I just had this argument with some family and friends. I do not watch sports for who I should vote for or what social platform I am adhering too.

I watch for action. For the thrill.

That ended when sports became political.

Agreed. I basically never watch ESPN any longer. NBA is out. NFL I’ll try and catch a game a few minutes into the first quarter to try and avoid the political BS.

Ratings and revenue show I/we are far from alone in our annoyance about the politicization of sports.

Thus, they lost a fan in me.

ESPN is trash i hate that the UFC is associated with them, I don't even watch the UFC on ESPN cause they can go # themselves.

Why would I give even less than 1% of support to such ideological simpletons.

You know what’s funny?

I could build a strong argument that professional black athletes have done more for race relations than any politicians. People of all races cheered them on, wore their jerseys, celebrated their talents and wins. They were idolized.

Now, it’s not about that. It’s about how bad you are for not supporting them - despite wearing their jersey and spending house of your life watching your teams/players.

Now those same people I rooted for want me to sit through a bunch of BS before a game to ensure I realize I’m in the wrong while I watch talented people who get paid millions of dollars explain they don’t like me.

So, they get none of my money or my time. And you only need another 20-30% of fans to feel that way before the league and players feel that too.

Add musicians to that and I'd agree with you 100%.

Music and sport have done more to break down barriers and unite people than all politicians and any amount of social engineering or rioting combined has ever done.

Unfortunately they have both now become mediums to push the woke, politically correct agenda and to demonise anyone who dare speak out against the monstrosity that BLM has become.

Actors too.

Who doesn't love Morgan Freeman, Denzel Washington, Halle Berry, Idris Elba, Will Smith (esp. in his hey day of the 90s), Zoe Saldana?

Definitely.

Again, another medium that has been taken over and now its all about filling quotas and spreading the message.

Ah, yes...

Corporate diversity training...I get to suffer through that next week.

Complete with some yahoo telling me, or at the very least implying, that I'm a bigot due to the fact that I'm a very middle aged white male.

You should make this it’s own thread. Agree greatly here.

I don’t get the fact that seeing injustices were fixed is now bad because the injustice should have never existed.

I have never understood why men, would watch other men in Spandex, tackle eachother. Always seemed kind of gay to me.

Now that the "men in tights" are falling to the "liberal minds". I hope my country wakes up!

Lol, I've often said if I wanted to watch 22 guys in tights play grab-ass, I'd watch gay porn instead

All in good humor, of course. I enjoy hockey immensely, and only watch the Winter Olympics for that. And for curling. Women's curling. They're...oh come on, they're just more fun to watch sweeping the ice.

That's why "(There was) a 28% decline in the ratings and a 23% decline in viewership from the 2019 opener"

www.forbes.com...

Remember the kneeling started in 2016:

The Super Bowl lost more than 12.5 million viewers from 2011 to 2019, dropping to its lowest viewership since 1976, measured as a proportion of U.S. population.

Children participating in football has declined also in the vast majority of states, coast to coast, which indicates a decline in interest in the sport. (see the Forbes link) Not surprising as the sport does not reflect the diversity of the nation. The teams are very racially imbalanced and do not in any way resemble the makeup of the US population. Many children feel that the sport is not for them because they are the wrong race to participate and they will never be allowed to pay college or pro ball because they are the wrong race and only see tokens of their race playing the game, if at all.

With the emphasis in the games now on race and on injustice, it highlights even more the total lack of diversity within the teams and how the game has become nearly mono-racial excluding all but the race who get paid multiple of millions and complain they are treated unjustly by society while living a 1%er lifestyle. Kind of makes their whining hypocritical.

That's not what your source says, stop making stuff up. One major reason less kids are playing is because parents don't want them to get brain damage:

However, some reasons behind the trends are more certain than others. Most notably, there can be little doubt that Junior Seau’s suicide in 2012, Will Smith in Concussion in 2015 and the emerging science of repetitive brain impacts and long-term neurological damage have cast a dark shadow over the sport.

Well, weekend rating were down 30% from last year. If the NFL doesn't crack down on the political stuff, some of the weaker teams (like the Lions) might be bankrupt by the end of the season.

Wah wah wah! So much whining and bitching. I think it’s great what the NFL and the NBA are doing, along with the MLB. Get with the times. Racism will no longer be tolerated. The majority of fans like me will be watching.

You're so woke... ignoring black on black crime as if it doesn't exist. Just like the NFL, NBA, MLB....
