I don't think there is an accurate term for China's economic system.

statist maybe.

Alien Abduct is right, they are very heartless and controlling.
they are also walking a tightrope as the Chinese people increasingly expect consumer goods and a better life.
I suspect the whole thing is very, very fragile and vulnerable.

of course I think the West is on thin ice as well.

Western private capitalism has a slightly different hierarchy: private employers at the top, parties and government below them, and the mass of employees comprise the bottom.

I don't agree with Mr. Wolff with that statement. In the USA, at least what our founding fathers considered, government is below the mass of people (a.k.a. employees). Too bad that over the years, government has elevated itself above the people.

I do see your point - government as 'servant leadership' so to speak. However I think Dr. Wolff was talking about real structure (economically) not ideological structure (political/power).

I agree about the ideological superiority of 'servant leadership' both in politics, business, religion, social, legal and other intertwined spheres of social life.

“it appears that China does Capitalism much better then the west. “

Wait, what?

Are we talking about the same China?

Obviously not. Your entire premise has no leg to stand on. The us is also not truly “capitalist”, especially when over 50% of our GDP is from Government spending

Obviously yes - China does do Capitalism better than the West. Their economic output is the equal of the US's. As a previous poster noted the have all these brand new billionaires. They also have put money into infrastructure and other social programs that better a large number of their people.

That FACT has many legs to stand on.

Regarding 'the premise' --- are you talking about the premise(s) in the article or my 'premise' in stating that China is better then the West at making money.?

I think that was a large part of Dr Wolff's thesis - that China and the USSR were Statist systems that were meant to be a transition between Feudalism and Democraic Socialism.

".... they are very heartless and controlling..." You know this how. More heartless and controlling then the West. more heartless and controlling than the US. Really? I think it's a question of clarity of vision. I find keeping children in cages rather heartless, drone bombing foreign villages rather disgusting, putting weapons ahead of peoples wellbeing beyond the pale.

Perhaps it is about the devil you know (go home team) rather then the devil you don't.

reading the news. anybody's.

More heartless and controlling then the West. more heartless and controlling than the US. Really? I think it's a question of clarity of vision. I find keeping children in cages rather heartless,

you would keep them in cells with adults? bad idea.

drone bombing foreign villages rather disgusting,

destroying terrorists to save innocents. can't do that by dropping flowers and candy.

putting weapons ahead of peoples wellbeing beyond the pale.

USA rich enough to have both. how much is China spending on missiles and aircraft carriers?

Perhaps it is about the devil you know (go home team) rather then the devil you don't.

USA not perfect but I'll match our record against anybody's.

As compared to 51% of the government being owned by businesses?

(Not accurate, but the meaning stands)

Hmmm
Most companies are owned by "stockholders" and ran by their respective boards.
I guess some politicians own stock in corporations .
I do , and I am not a politician.

What a crock of crap.
The Chinese government owns all of the raw materials.
They own all of the utilities.
They have no worker safety standards.
They have little in the way of labor laws.

Pretty easy to make things profitable when your expenses are so low.

Yes, precisely. The Chinese have got where they are through the control of labour markets. State corruption via Communist Party officials who ensure whole communities can be "removed" to make way for new factories, which they get a share in. Low pollution controls have made China the world's biggest polluter. Don't get me started on the theft of IP from the West, much of which has been supported by the Chinese authorities.

China is where it is because bizarrely the West have turned a blind eye to their abuse, unfair commercial practices, poor standards and crap human rights record. Crazy, but true. All so that Apple can make cheap phones, which they can sell at vast profit to their customers who then bemoan (er) human rights blah, blah, blah.
