I always thought the reasons were because he stopped the mad rush to socialism in the US and was showing that unfettered capitalism could kick tail in this day and age. In 2019 the US had a hot economy with very low unemployment. And if the US could pull it off the powers that be in the rest of the world felt threatened it could start a rush of right wing political parties elsewhere bringing Trumpian policies to their socialist utopias.

To them Covid-19 was a godsend. It gave them a shot at replacing Trump and discrediting his policies. Otherwise world socialism would be on the ropes by now.

An attempt at being serious in a not very serious thread; Trump is arrogant, boorish, dismissive and disrespectful to almost every world leader and the nations they represent - unless of course they are Russian or Saudi Arabian - and seems to think he can bully the rest of the world into doing what HE wants.

Trump struggles to complete a full sentence without losing his train of thought, mumbling and/or uttering some sort of gibberish or incoherent ramblings or coming out with outright lies, exaggerations and off the cuff remarks that seem to lack any sort of considered reasoning.

Trump disrespects the great Office he currently holds and discredits the great US nation on the international stage on such a regular basis that the nation is bordering on becoming the laughing stock of the world.

The American people deserve so much better.....so does the world.

I might have missed one or two things but I think that about covers it for now.

Because the US is a superpower that shapes geo-politics, international trade, international agreements and conflict.

Trump has no awareness or understanding of world politics, stabs allies in the back while cosying up to dictators and pulls out of international agreements because previous Presidents signed them, not because of evidence the agreements need to be torn up. He's only interested in himself and seems to lack any morals, values or concept of the greater good.

He's a one trick pony on the international stage and is routinely outwitted by any country or individual who gives the red carpet treatment to stroke his ego. It's a dangerous flaw for any superpower to have.

I think of it this way.

If my choice is between a doctor who is nice and polite but whos actions will harm me and a boorish, arrogant prick of a doctor whos actions will help me. . . .

And you think that’s going to come from the miserable and hateful left? What do they have that’s going to make this country better? Their hatred, deception, hypocrisy, destruction, etc.....?

The dem party is the biggest group of miserable deceitful f&%#’s this country has ever seen and you think that’s what this country needs, what the world needs?

Trump has been trying to do things in this country that millions of people have wanted done for decades. Things our last prez completely ignored. Personally I would like to continue to go forward and not be thrown back to the Stone Age with the dem party. They’ve created more racism and division then we’ve seen in 70 yrs. So yeah, we don’t need anymore of the lefts BS, period, they can go piss off and play in the street.

First off, this isn't a USA site, this is a world wide site, so I am not complaining about views for other nations. Other areas perspective is a great thing in some cases. But if not complaining due to job requirements, then what drives people from thousands of miles away separated by vast oceans, to feel the need to adopt such a strong attitude about American politics?

I'm sure there is something driving this, and I'd like to know what it is. Is the telly telling you about the bad orange man? Is the political spectrum were you live so bland and boring that you have to take your game on the road? is your nation all squared away and in such good shape there just isn't anything to complain about?

The reason people all over the world feel the need to adopt strong opinions about American politics is because the
USA is by far the single most powerful and influential single entity on the planet and it affects the quality of people's lives all over the planet. That is a role that the US deliberately and successfully pursued since the end of WWII and--for better or worse--that's where we are. The US is the only nation that has the ability to project overwhelming military power any place on the planet, basically at the whim of the POTUS. The POTUS can go and depose leaders of countries he doesn't like (think Saddam Hussein), spend a few trillion dollars in the process, and not blink an eye. Our economy is still the largest in the world and benefits from the dollar being effectively the world's currency. When the POTUS decides to use the economic power of the US on an adversary nation (think Iran) the economy of that nation turns to crap, and tens of millions of people feel the effect.

To all of those people in the world who are affected by the power of the US--potentially both positively and negatively--it must seem like a kind of taxation without representation. There can be major impacts on their life, with no ability to participate in the decision making process or selection of the POTUS. So yeah, they have strong opinions about it.

I almost never quote an entire post just to provide a one or two line response to it, but I thought your post was so absolutely dead-on right, that I had to do it this time, despite my inclinations not to do it.

Bravo 1947Boomer!!

Carry on. keep up the top-notch analysis, and Ahoy SS Submariner!

If only we had a party that was full of hate and lies being led by a hollow core puppet our country and the world would be a much better place. Oh wait, I know a group that would be perfect for this.

The dems want more control over peoples life’s than any political party ever did before, do you think their greed for power is going to stop at America’s borders?

Have I said that?

Just because I think Trump is unfit to serve in the Office he currently occupies why do you assume that I think the alternative is any better?

Why do you have such a locked in perspective on politics?
It's not about left/right all the time.

Back in December we in the UK had truly appalling options in our General Election; neither Boris Johnson or Jeremy Corbyn were/are fit to serve as Prime Minister and the Liberal Undems had proven themselves thoroughly unsuitable too.
No other party was a serious contender.
Shocking options.

The options available to the American electorate certainly seem no better.
In fact, and I never thought this would be possible, they seem worse!

Good to see you're being consistent and offering absolutely nothing constructive whatsoever to the thread and talking total bollocks.

Which would be ok if you were funny and actually gave me a laugh.....but you're not.
Your persistent attempts at satire and/or cynicism are pretty bloody poor to say the least.

Please bring something new and biting to the game otherwise you'll just continue to be a complete irrelevance.

Not learning from your mistakes is a somewhat worrying trait in any 74 year old.....its a major cause for concern in a 74 year old POTUS!

You still can't get over the " fact " that without Britain there would never have been a country called The United States Of America.

Sour grapes or what ?

I have to ask, in all seriousness, what has Trump done that is so terrible?

Let's just both agree that what he says is often stupid, I'll caveat to that.

But what has he done that is so terrible?

I was referring to The 13 Colonies that formed the U.S. If Britain hadn't put those colonies there, where would the U.S. have come from.

Without those British Colonies, The Founding Fathers as you like to romantically call them would never have set foot in North America.

So please explain where The U.S. would have come from ?

Awaits reply.

No, he is typing on The World Wide Web which was not invented by America,

I see this claim all the time, as if the WWW is a greater and more useful invention than the Internet. The WWW is brilliantly designed software that lets us get around better on the Internet by using Hypertext — both invented by Americans. The WWW is utterly useless without the Internet and hypertext, yet we’d still be able to use the Internet without the WWW. Without the Internet, there’s no use for the WWW. I’m not trying to disparage Tim Bernard-Lee — a true genius — or his multiple inventions (hypertext transfer protocol, the web browser and web server) that make the WWW possible. Just trying to put things in perspective.
