He worked away day after day
writing, re-reading, editing.
Days became weeks.
Weeks slipped into months
in front of the fire.

Finally, with novel complete,
he counted only 10 pages;
short story then.

I hate it when you have some epiphany about a twist in the narrative and you go to add it to a section that you hadn't got to writing down yet! It's like the whole empty page bit, all over again!

Something Wooden This Way Comes (another version that went over)

Something Wooden This Way Comes:
Five empty wooden stumps sat around a roaring campfire at the bottom of a deep ravine. The ground was flat gravel and one by one the gnomes appeared and became five in various poofs of thunderous claps of ground shaking rumbles and silence but voices in the far distance closed in slowly around them and then stopped. The five clapped hands together sending a wave of power spinning and scattering the voices tearing them apart in shreds of grey that disappeared slowly in mist......The stumps are still there to this day but are growing larger with time and some say at night they hear a strange stillness that rumbles through their bones and claim to smell something wooden amongst the trees.
