I don't think I've ever had the experience of remembering a particular item, although I have always had a great interest in the mid-20th century era. I think it is because when, as a child, I stayed at my grandparent's house I felt loved, in great contrast to my homelife with my parents which was awful, awful, awful. My grandparents had a houseful of midcentury modern furniture and decor, and all kinds of interesting souvenirs from the places they lived, because they moved around a lot with my grandpa's job.
Anyway, according to Edgar Cayce, we choose each life we live based on what lesson we need to learn, and mostly we are surrounded by the same souls playing different roles in our lives. Your son in this life might be your work supervisor in the next life, etc. It's called a "soul group".

Isn't that how they figure out who the new Dali Lama is? They mix some of his possessions in with some other stuff and see if the candidate gravitates to them.

That's the story... but it occurs to me that this is a dilemna (spelling correct in my old world) as isn't the "Dali Lama" (always personally pictured as a drooping mustachioed ruminant) supposed to be above worldly possessions/ objects?

I always wondered if reincarnation is real. I like Edgar Cayce's explanation of choosing lives to learn valuable lessons and hopefully advance as a soul.

So with some skepticism, I'll share one of my experiences with regard to past lives. In my dream/vision , I'm on a sailing ship. My guess is that it is like 80-100 feet long. I'm some sort of officer, perhaps captain. The deck that I'm standing on is slanted so I have to kind of lean back but the motion of the ship is natural to me. I'm wearing a blue coat and somewhat dirty white pants. The coat is worn and a little dirty, so I'm guessing I've worn it a lot, or have been away from land a long time. I am feeling great. The ship is making good speed, the ocean is not too rough and I'm excited, not just to be sailing but I think that I"m close to the end of the voyage.

Back to real life. I've had that dream a number of times and it is so real. However, I usually have very limited recall of much more than I've written. In this life, I love being on boats and/or being near a harbor. I can just walk along the piers and look at the boats. I also have a fear of the ocean or being out on a boat in rough weather.

I've read stories where people who say they were reincarnated remember items very vividly.
How crazy would it be to buy an antique, that you once actually owned previously. Or maybe even made!

Could this be from previous experiences, genetic memory, something else?
Anyone else experience this. It seems so much more than just liking an era or having an affinity toward certain things.

The following might seem impossible, but it's true for me.

I very vaguely remember my past life, I don't recall any items of value to me back then, but I clearly remember a nice talk I had with two angelic beautiful girls, one was blonde and the other brunette, both long hair, similar in dress to the 1700 or 1800s in Europe. It was a causal quick meeting and took place just before coming to this Earth. I wish one of them was with me here.

I also remember another important official meeting from that time, but that's more private. Take whatever you like.

Cool thread, brought back memories.

I don't really seem to remember items, but what I remember or seem to remember is how I died each past life, and each death affects certain parts of my current personality.

1st. This was long ago, I am not even sure we (humans) even had names back then. Was wearing leather clothes, got separated and was alone in the mountains, fell to my death. I currently have crippling acrophobia (fear of heights).

2nd. This is likely why I remember. I was a Monk, almost reached enlightenment, or was advancing, I remember the appearance of my teacher (who was an enlightened master) and the stone temple we lived in. This is actually the one that makes me think these memories are real. I knew where the place was before it was discovered, and I knew the area. It was excavated in 2013, I knew of it back in the 90s when I was a kid. So many people in my life, especially when I was a kid and teenager, would say I had an old soul. I even remember as a kid in elementary school looking into the mirror at myself and finding it so weird that I was in a young body again.

3rd. I was somewhere in Asia, was likely Asian, not sure the time frame, if I looked at list or pictures of styles or architectures of different time periods I could maybe piece it together. I died in a sudden surprise fire trying to save people (city of tight wooden buildings). This I think is where I get my chill attitude towards life events. Knowing to just take it as it goes, since suddenly you can die quiet horribly in unsuspecting ways. But, I have a serious sadness when I can't save people, I am an empath, I feel peoples pain and can't stand seeing people in pain.

4th. I was a solider, it looked like the end of the roman or related era. Died in an ambush, spear through the chest, saving a religions/political figure. This is where my big distrust of authority comes from, politicians, etc. They get us into messes and the normal people suffer. I would wake up in pain in the morning, and I would have a red like scar appear on my chest where the spear went through. I even showed it to my brother and he could see it, it would fade in a few hours, this was a reoccurring phenomenon until my early twenties.

Haven't though about this for years, then it was bugging me for some reason. Saw this thread on ATS and thought I would just add my experience here. Some times sharing ones stories is good for the soul.
