Only actions can offend me. Words are a silly thing to get upset about, wouldn't you agree?

I do agree, 100%!

That's exactly the point of my OP.

But I think you already knew that.

Great, I'm sure the universe will no longer be racist and peace on Earth will now be achieved. If I rolled my eyes as hard as I wanted to, they'd get stuck behind my brain.

I'd like to see present Trump end this bull#.

What stellar objects names are offensive and to whom?

Many of the stars in the night sky have Arab names.

There's no telling. Probably anything that has the potential to sound white. I've always ignored things that I found offensive, it's too bad the country is full of busy bodies now. Remember when people hated busy bodies? Those were the good old days.

I'm upset by the spider on your fivehead. It gives me the heeby-jeebies every time I see it.

It's amazing you mention that. I just in the last few minutes realized that I have a mole on my head in roughly the same location as the spider in the pic and thought to myself, "when I lose my hair maybe i'll get that spider tattoo over that mole".

I don't really believe that synchronicity is generally anything more than coincidence, but damn...

edit: the pic is from a comic series called "transmetropolitan", the character is Spider Jerusalem. An awesome read if you are into comics.

That was when everybody minded their own damned business.

Words don't upset me at all - on the contrary, I love thoughtful and precise use of language.

What does upset me is the misuse of words and language either through laziness, stupidity, or virtue signaling.

And what really upsets me is this relentless march to the bottom, led by things like Political Correctness.

Just because some pansy-ass/triggered snowflake/twat-knot sporting/Karen-like/waste-of-a-pair-of-shoes gets offended, things like this pathetic NASA announcement are foisted upon EVERYONE, whether it makes any sense at all or not.

This was the final nail in the coffin for me. I'm done, and will call it out whenever I see it, regardless of who it may offend.

Jupiter, King of Roman Mythology. Kings are Very oppressive. Cancelled.

Pluto will get cancelled because people
will mistake this for Bluto, the domestic abuser in Popeye.

Sun is sexist. Why can’t it be daughter. Cancelled.

Many others too.

From AP

It will also cease to refer to a pair of spiral galaxies, NGC 4567 and NGC 4568, in the Virgo Galaxy Cluster referred to as the “Siamese Twins Galaxy”, as part of its effort to align cosmic objects with current thinking and conventions.

I agree, it is outdated. There is no longer a Siam. It should be The Thailand Twins Galaxy.

That sounds like a massage parlor thing.

A scientific body using accurate scientific terminology to maintain scientifc rigour???

IT'S THE END OF DAYS!!!!

tl;dr - New General Catalogue (NGC) naming system has been the Astrophysics standard for 120 years; NASA have used the NGC naming system for at least 50 years. This isn't news, it's nothing to do with 'PC Culture' or being 'woke' - it's just science.

Why do you think I'm offended by the Arab names of stars?

Why is that what you got from my post?
