You could argue that this was AN going amok, and indeed the stuff was there for long enough to change in stability in some way, perhaps another salt, as in sea water, I don't know, so only speculating, but what exactly could the detonator actually be?

There's not much doubt to me that the many white flashes seen, especially the last one, seen clearly seconds before the devastating explosion were not fireworks, nor bullets to me.
